Hello,

Here's one for you...

I'm now in a band that has lots of members (10 at the moment!) and when I'm soloing and ripping it up, I'm getting drowned out by the maelstrom of noise we make...

Can anyone recommend a decent booster / equaliser so I can be heard when playing the notes??

Only ever really been in 4/5 piece before, never had to worry about it!

Sack a few members and get a bigger amp.

At least!

Can't recommend any pedals (for once), but have you thought about WHAT you're playing? If you've got to cut through I suggest keeping it high and slow with lots of double-stops.

Yeah, the songs aren't appropriate for shredding notes. Not mny style that anyway. I've got to battle for airwaves with a brass section, acoustic, rhythm and keys...!

What kind of sound/instruments does the band have? Get a grasp of the average frequency range and go higher or lower. Get a treble booster. I have the same problem, but this baby cuts through. What amp have you got?

it sounds like maybe there's too much going on.
if there's 10 members, its probably not a good idea for everyone to play at the same time.
maybe asked the others to play a bit less on parts?

Sound advice that. Its all about the dynamics innit.

I agree, but the bit in question is kind of like a big build up before the end of the song (and indeed set). I have a boss solo on it (well I like to think so..), but it can't be heard so well. There's no problem for the rest of the set, but could be with new tunes.

Its just to cut through the biiiiiiiiiiig bit really.

if it was me, i'd use a compressor & a volume pedal

but, by the sound of things, you probably need someone who's not in the band to monitor all the levels, adjust eq's things like that

10 members, fucking hell mike, what are you's, a ub40 tribute act? ;0)

Yeah, we do a stormin Red Red Wine! Hehe

Already have a compressor but I constantly use that, its just for a bit of volume in one part really.

You fancy a job listening for levels? ;-)

Volume pedal then innit? if it's just a bit of gain you want

£50 an hour sound about right for a techie with 20 years experience?

get the contracts out in the post then mike and i'll make you's sound like the best ub40 covers band in town '0)
