Worry not, Purity Ring are most certainly not a Jonas Brothers tribute act nor do they cite Selena Gomez as a major influence.
No, Purity Ring prefer to keep their pop twisted, warped and anything but chaste- taking radio friendly R'n'B sounds and turning them robotic, leaving the wires and circuit boards exposed. The duo have just signed to 4AD after releasing music in 2011 through the always exciting Transparent, who gave early breaks to Yuck, Disclosure, Perfume Genius and Smith Westerns.
Purity Ring are just two people, producer Corin Riddick and vocalist Megan James, and will release their debut album 'Shrines' in July. Shrines promises to be a collection of 'lullabies for the club' best summed up by new song 'Oberdear' which was revealed earlier this week. The track is typical of what Megan and Corin do together - making hypnotic and alien beats with a sugary sweet topping. Like label mate Grimes, Purity Ring sound like the perfect intersection where 'pop' meets 'weird' on the musical venn diagram.
The duo will be in the UK later in the year to play a London show on June 12th. In the meantime take a listen to 'Oberdear' below and grab a free download of the track here.
