![]() A band with a name that's just dieing for a "The" in front of it, but amazingly standing defiant from current conventions in more than just their name are Southampton's Delays. The four piece consisting of brothers Greg (vocals/guitar) and Aaron Gilbert (keys), Colin Fox (bass) and Rowly (drums) have been tearing up the country of late with support slots for The Coral, The Thrills, Mull Historical Society, McAlmont & Butler, Clearlake and more recently Easyworld and Tim Burgess' solo tour. Their sound is officially Shack meets The Hollies meets Cocteau Twins, but could just as easily be The Byrds meets The Beach Boys meets epic indie. The band met at school and shared a love of Twin Peaks, The Prisoner, The La's and Diego Maradonna. Their debut single 'Nearer Than Heaven' received such critical acclaim on its release in April 2003 that they were being chased for live sessions by XFM and BBC6 not too long after. Their recent single 'Hey Girl' made it into the UK top 40 and their follow up single due out in October is set to do even better. This IS a band that has signed to Rough Trade though, the home of The Strokes and The Libertines, so they're obviously on to a winner. For more info visit www.thedelays.co.uk. |
