    Good News from Modest Mouse

June 28, 2004 by Eleftheria Ioannidou

To start off with Modest Mouse have a cool name, what's more, they deliver addictive pop punk that’s reminiscent of the emo-isms of Last Days of April and are inspired by the sounds of Pavement and The Pixies. Formed in 1994 and originally signed to Up Records in the US (Matador in the UK), the Seattle four-piece have been described variously as ‘cool odd American geniuses’, ‘the weirdly cool independent voice of alternative rock music’ and… ‘the new redefinition of rock’! Can they live up to these expectations?

A second album is out and, along with it, their chance to prove whether they will eventually redefine rock or not. ‘Good News for People who Love Bad News’ is the first full band studio album since ‘The Moon and Antarctica’ in 2000, produced by Dennis Herring (Camper Van Beethoven, Throwing Muses) it also features ‘The Good Times are Killing Me’ remixed by Wayne Coyne of Flaming Lip fame.

Modest Mouse are performing at the Reading (27/8) and Leeds (28/8) Festivals, for those who just missed them in their small UK tour, they will be touring Europe and the US during summer 2004.

Modest Mouse are: Isaac Brock (guitars/vocals), Eric Judy (bass) and Dan Galucci (guitar/keyboard)
