Ash guitarist Charlotte Hatherley releases her first single as a free download today (June 7th).
The track, 'Kim Wilde' is the first to be taken from Charlotte's debut album 'Grey Will Fade'.
Since joining Ash in 1997, songs penned by the 24 year-old Londoner have found their way onto the B-sides of singles such as 'There's a Star', which featured the album's title track.
The album was recorded in the spare time available around the recording of Ash's 'Meltdown' in LA last year, "I’ve had these songs going round in my head for the last five or six years, and it was the only time I knew I’d have free to actually be able to do it”, she told Gigwise, "I went out to LA two weeks before we did the Ash record, and then stayed out for a little while after to mix and master it".
Eric Drew Feldman, formerly of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band, and solo Frank Black producer, is at the controls and Miss Hatherley reckons "It’s a Bowie/Eno/XTC thing".
Chuck in a healthy dollop of the B52's, and we reckon she's about right.
Anyway it's ace. So follow the link below, and download the thing for free - complete with artwork!
Bonzer!
