The ongoing Hot Chip hiatus has been a great thing for music.
This is not because the band are crap, Hot Chip are a brilliant band, but everything the members have released since the band took a break following their 'One Life Stand' in 2012, as solo projects, has been arguably better than the work they produced together.
Case in point? Well, there's last year's Joe Goddard single 'Gabriel' for one - an astounding dance track which was quite rightly blogged to near-exhaustion as its infectious club soul spread. Then, of course, there is this year's 2 Bears debut album - Goddard's latest side-project. The definitive dance collection of 2012 (so far...) and the record responsible for bringing a much-missed warmth back to the UK's underground club scene.
Now it's the turn of Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor and Felix Martin to impress the music world with their own recordings, having premiered their track 'Your Love' as new duo, New Build.
Deep, dub-influenced and soulful, 'Your Love' mixes the indie-leanings of Hot Chip with touches of dubstep and a gloriously uplifting vocal. It signals big things not only for this new duo, but also for the 2012 return of Hot Chip, who are due to make a comeback later this year with fifth album, 'In Our Heads'. Lets hope their excellent solo adventures make for an incredible collaborative record.
