The Best Songs And Albums Of 2010... So Far

As March rolls into its final few days this month we are fast approaching the end of the first quarter of the year. obviously I don't think of the year in such strict calendar terms but now would be a good time to take a breather and look back on the music we have had so far in 2010. For a start, what an amazing year we've had so far and how incredible things are shaping up to be. From These New Puritans to Gorillaz by way of Marina and The Diamonds we have had a range of musical treats that shows no signs of letting up.

I have compiled a list of my favourite songs and albums of 2010 thus far plus had a little look into the future at what the next nine months hold. Take a look, see what you think and let me know what you're loving in 2010

    Albums

    These New Puritans - Hidden
    Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
Los Campesinos - Romance Is Boring
Toro Y Moi - Causers Of This
    Yeasayer - Odd Blood
Hot Chip - One Life Stand
Blood Red Shoes - Fire Like This
Errors - Come Down With Me
    Vampire Weekend - Contra
Marina and The Diamonds - The Family Jewels
Dum Dum Girls - I Will Be

    Songs

    Foals - Spanish Sahara
    Gorillaz - Melancholy Hill
These New Puritans - Three Thousand
Gil Scott Heron - Me And The Devil
    Yeasayer - O.N.E
    Summer Camp - Ghost Train
Vampire Weekend - Giving Up The Gun
    Yuck - Georgia
    Jay Electronica - Exhibit C
    Caribou - Odessa
    Oberhofer - Away Frm U

So what has tickled your fancy so far this year? Albums, singles, 12"'s, downloads, anything you've loved. And what are you looking forward to? Personally the fact that in nine months time we'll have new music from M.I.A, The National, LCD Soundsystem, Foals, Arcade Fire as well as debut records from The Drums, Frankie and The Hearstrings, Joy Orbison and Veronica Falls is making for what should be a vintage year.

    • wot about Washed Out, Holly Miranda, Laura Marling? I mean Gigwise rants about Holly Miranda being the best thing since slice bread then ignores her when it comes to compiling a list? Instead we get sixth-form favs like These New Puritans

    • This is not the best, it's just someone's personal favourites. It's just one or two peoples choices..

    • Well then why is it relevant? and you asked for an opinion so im telling you that its rubbish. there will always be a Marina and the Diamonds in one form or anouther, its a tool of the industry. Hype something enough in the media and every Kev gets excited

    • Maybe you have a work interest, relative, not relevant. Maybe you should change the heading of your article. Music comes in all different shapes and sizes, all different forms. i sense the person who writ this is just scatching the surface in his or her office, thinking about the first quarter, rubbing his or her genitalia at the though of a nice little tax return.
