Ahead of the release of their debut album, 'Unknown Colours', Sad Day For Puppets have been keeping a diary of their UK tour for Gigwise. Check out what they got up to at the recent Great Escape festival in Brighton, as well a special in store gig in London, below...
Saturday
Me and the drummer Micke meet at half past four in the morning. A lot of people are still out partying. We pick up the rest of the band and go to the airport. Around three o’clock in the afternoon we arrive at Brighton and The Great Escape. The seaside is beautiful! It’s kind of special to see the horizon, maybe even more if you are raised in the woods, as I was.
The evening’s venue is a wooden circus tent from the 19th Century. The light inside the tent is warm and I get a warm feeling from the audience as well.
Sunday
The next day we play at the Windmill Brixton in London. I really like the place. For a small sum you can both eat and listen to a lot of bands. Amazing! The man and the woman that cook everything seem to be really sweet as well.
Monday
Tonight’s gig is across the city at Rough Trade East, the big record store. The crowd listen carefully and look like they are enjoying the music. Among all grownups is a child, about five years old. This concert is the first ever for the kid, the father tells us. I feel a bit honoured.
Tuesday
This night we play at Bardens boudoir together with a couple of good bands, as usual. Some of the people in the audience I recognise from yesterdays gig, which makes me glad. Afterwards we get a tempting offer from the Norwegian band to come to a late party but we have to get some sleep before leaving for Manchester next morning.
Wednesday
In Manchester we’re playing at a place called the Irish centre. When we arrive we meet people dressed in black on their way out. There has just been a funeral and they are so kind to let us have the leftovers. We get to eat as much as we like
After the gig I speak with some guys from the audience. They want to practise Swedish and I turn out to be a rather mean teacher. I almost laugh myself into tears.
Thursday
Next gig is at the Sound City festival in Liverpool. The venue is huge and not even half full but we are having a good time anyhow. The sound up on stage is excellent and there is also a nice light show while we are playing.
Friday
The last gig is in Crewe, at the Volume festival. The audience is young, happy and also a bit drunk since its Friday. They seem to have a great time and so do we.
