FAO The Libertines Gonna Release An Album? Then Give Us Something We Havent Heard Before

With sites like iTunes is there really any need for a ‘Best Of’ anymore? Case in point: The Libertines.

Today ‘they’ announced that their 'best of' (hasn’t there only been two albums though?) will be released next month (October 29th). Understandably, as soon as the news broke the gossip on forums started – with most people against the retrospective, mainly because of the tracklist.

“Carl and Pete wouldn’t have put that song on,” slammed one angry fan. “How can they leave off ‘The Good Old Days’,” harked another.

They’ve got a point as well. Any Libertines fan has got every song on the tracklist, whether it be a studio version or some fuzzy recording from one of the band’s shows at the Rhythm Factory in 2002. Would it not have been better if they gave us something we haven’t got?

OK, so a new album might be a bit far fetched, but what about all the demos from various sessions across the globe? Songs like, ‘Lust Of The Libertines,’ and ‘Smashing.’ Songs that more people NEED to hear. As any fan will tell you, The Libertines were a lot more than a couple of albums and a handful of singles. It’s these relatively unheard songs that the world really needs to have on their iPod.

Just some of the songs that the ‘Best Of’ should include…

1. ‘Smashing’
2. ‘Skint And Minted’ (from the days when the band recorded songs in a vocodor vortex a la Julian Casablancas)
3. ‘France’
4. ‘Lust Of The Libertines’
5.  ‘Breck Road Lover’
6.  ‘Never Never’
7. 'The Good Old Days'

The Libertines at their best…

Got any suggestions that we haven't included? Then rant and rave via a nice comment below....

  • All that, and Plan A, Anything but Love. Seven Deadly Sins. There’s so many good stuff out there begging to be released. Any compilation of that I’d buy in a sec, but not this rubbish.
