About
ultCult are a band of four that make beguiling and beautiful lo-fi pop. The band draw on influences from alt folk and bedroom popsters with the likes of Patrick Wolf, Beirut, Cat Power and Joanna Newsom informing their style. As with these artists ultCult manage to craft their own world with their songs. Their music draws you in and captures your imagination. Softly, half-spoken, half-sung lyrics draw compelling scenes whilst violins, keyboard and glockenspiel curl and flit magically in the mix.
The band formed in 2007 when two members decided to make music together. Since then many have succumbed to their charms. Huw Stephens recently played the band on his Radio 1 show and they have found a fan in Edith Bowman who featured the band on her websites bedroom bands player. The band were also picked for support slots on tours with Los Campesinos! and Tokyo Police Club.
The band have just returned from Iceland where they have been recording their debut single – due out later this year.
ultCult are Lucille Brown (vocals, keyboard, organ), Arianne Witchello (violin, accordian), Amelia Rivas (keyboard, organ, glockenspiel) and Danny Cunningham (guitar).
