About
Shibuya Crossings was formed initially as a solo project by singer and main songwriter Declan Harrington in 2006 before becoming a full band later that year. After writing and recording debut album 'Songs For Lovesick Teenagers' in his London flat, Declan felt he needed a band to take his songs out into the live arena and so after numerous drummer and bass player auditions along with a recommendation from a friend, he was joined by Gareth Evans on Guitar, Rob Toshman on Bass and Ian Escario on drums. In the year and a half that followed, the band released 2 singles (Typically, Everybody Thinks You're Dead & Can You Prove Something To Me) to critical acclaim, recorded 2 BBC radio sessions, and had their singles played on Radio 1, XFM and 2FM in Ireland
In Spring 2008 the band decided to take a break from live shows and focus on writing and recording their second album. Around 20 songs came out of the initial pre-production sessions, 14 of which were recorded for the album with producer Richard Knowler (who also worked with Declan on the first album). As yet untitled, the record is currently being mixed and is due for release later in 2009. The new material sees the sound of the band progress in newer directions with the influences of Gareth, Rob and Ian very evident in the recordings. The first single "If It Isn't Getting Better" is expected to be out early 2010 and the guys are already back playing live in preparation for the release.
During the recording sessions the band also managed to record a cover for the Good Vibrations (the Northern Irish Punk label) 25th anniversary album. Contributing a cover of 'Don't Ring Me Up' by Protex, the guys line up on the album alongside Snow Patrol, Ash, Therapy, Foy Vance and Duke Special who are themselves contributing their own interpretations of songs by The Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers and Rudi. The compilation is due for release in April this year on Immortal Recordings (Ireland)
