About
Manchester’s OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE have been making a big noise on the UK’s underground scene for some time. Their music combines an angry, punk-rock attitude and the intense heaviness of metal with dark, introspective lyrical matter and powerful melodies. They won’t fit into one of your neat little boxes and their ever growing army of fans can’t be pigeonholed either.
Over the past few years OC have released 2 self-financed 6-track EPs, the first of which is sold out (and much sought after second-hand) and the second closely following suite, they have shared the stage with Skid Row, Backyard Babies, Wednesday 13, Horrorpops, Epica, Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster and more as well as being selected from hundreds of unsigned UK metal bands for the line up of Bloodstock 2008 alongside the likes of Opeth, Napalm Death, Soulfly and Nightwish. All of this has been achieved without the aid of major labels, managers or agents.
OC have always had a strong DIY ethic and this will be further illustrated in 2009 as they release their debut full length album on their own record label, entirely self-funded and self promoted. With the music industry in such a sad state of affairs the underground scene is taking the power back, bands making the music they want to make without the soulless production, stylists and commercialisation which we have come to expect from the out-of-touch major label/supermarket/corporation hybrids that once thought they ruled the airwaves. This is the real deal.
