Motion Theory is an alternative progressive rock band based in England made up of four experienced musicians from punk, funk, rock and classical backgrounds. Formed in 2008 at Durham University, Motion Theory also has a following in the Manchester area where two band members hail from. An EP in 2008 and debut album 'Featherhead' in 2009 promoted with national tours (including London, Edinburgh, Bristol, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle) are starting to establish the band's reputation across the UK. In 2009 Motion Theory entered three songs, including the album title track "Featherhead" into the UK Songwriting Contest - all three were ranked as semi-finalists. In September 'Featherhead' was awarded Unsigned Record of the Week by Manchester Music. The album is available for download from www.motiontheoryband.com. Unlike some of the more "difficult" prog their catchy and accessible melodic rock wasn’t overwhelmed by gratuitously bizarre time signatures or weird chord progressions — it had just enough surprises to keep it interesting, but stayed sane enough that you can dance to it...a big thumbs-up."
