About
Promises of gold paved streets and bright lights lured the four members of Ice Station Zebra to Crouch End, North London where they accommodate the Church Studios made famous by Bob Dylan’s mistaken visit to a man named Dave at some point in the 1990s.
Pitched somewhere between the primal pulse of Neil Young and the shimmering atmospherics of The Fleet Foxes, Ice Station Zebra perform songs about things they haven't got and stuff they don’t need.
Lyrically they buy, beg, borrow and steal from anything and everything including spiritual philosophy, scientific theory, political persuasions, literary leavens and experiences with disillusionment, dreams, drink and dames.
The Summer of 2006 saw the band win XFM unsigned and go on to play the O2 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park. Alas, an offshoot business in selling bottled sweat didn’t take off.
The band recorded and released a debut album, Panopticon, in 2008, following up in 2009 with the One Man War EP, both released via Sheffield indie label Second Sound.
The band is currently working on new material with producers at London based artist management outfit The Animal Farm.
A new EP is due to be released in April 2010.
