Brian Eno Condemns Israeli Attacks In Gaza

Brian Eno has condemned Israel's ongoing military action in Gaza - and accused the state of pretending to be the “victim”.

More than 600 people are believed to have been killed since Israeli forces launched a full-scale campaign against the leaders of the Palestinian Sunni paramilitary organisation Hamas eleven days ago.

Speaking at a rally in London over the weekend, Eno said: "What we're seeing in Gaza is an experiment in provocation conducted by the Israeli government.

“You take one and a half million people, you stuff them into a small space, you deny them food, water, sanitation, medicine, and then act surprised when they get hostile.

"But you want that hostility, because that's the cue for you to act the victim. Israel is pretending to be a victim in a situation in which they are the oppressor.”

Eno added it was “tragic that a country formed in the ashes of the holocaust should act in this way. It's heartbreaking. Why do the Israelis do it? What's the reason for creating this conflict?

"The reason is that under the cover of it they can continue to build settlements. They can continue to get large grants from the American government.

"They can continue to steal the homeland of the Palestinians, and continue to make a Warsaw ghetto in the Middle East.”

Israel forces have today (January 6th) come under renewed pressure to agree to a ceasefire after a United Nations-run school on the Gaza strip was bombed, killing at least 40 people.

The latest violence, which has threatened to derail any hope of peace in the Middle East, was triggered after Hamas began firing rockets into Israel.

As previously reported on Gigwise, former Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox said last week she had been “shaken to the core” by footage of the conflict.

Respect MP George Galloway and Bianca Jagger have also called for a ceasefire.

  • I find it soooooh very irresponsible for celebrities on a whole to spout off their uneducated mouths in this manner!!! what has Palestine and Hamas been doing to Israel for so many years and yet no one speaks up for them yet as soon as they decide that enough is enough you empty air heads go getting diareha of the mouth!!! know your facts before you start spouting off and spot beliving lies!!!Since none of you are in the military and know nothing of what really goes on in these parts,SHUT UP!!!

  • Where was Mr. Eno for the past 2 years that Hamas has been lobbing rockets into Israel? Is Mr. Eno aware that Hamas' self-stated goal is the destruction of Israel? It this OK with him? The answers to the above questions is clear; Mr. Eno wants Israel to disappear. What will be left is another arab state not unlike all the rest.

  • what a crock of shite antoinette. all it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to say nothing (and there's evil on both sides) the israeli military seem to have killed as many israeli soldiers as hamas have since the ceasefire brokedown...a small nod to the disproportionate levels at play currently (which doesn't make any killings of innocents right)

  • Eno, youre an idiot. I cannot believe someone that we're surposed to trust to study the facts can spout off irresponsibly infront of so many people. You have to understand that hamas does not want israel to be there, they want it to be wiped of the map like their friends in iran. Israel withdrew from gaza about 3 years ago. get it? withdrew! they said :"yea take gaza, just let us live in peace thats it" Since than southern israel has been bombarded on a daily basis with rockets e

  • DEDE. israel withdrew but kept in force a blockade. if it had withdrawn and not done this, there would have been much more outrage at hamas' attacks (and the world will rightly never allow the destruction of israel)

  • Eno is dead-on right with his assessment of the situation. Israel has abused the Palestinians for decades, and they never miss a chance to take a disproportionate number of lives whenever they can play the victim. And Dede, that bombardment you speak of? Yeah, it's killed a total of 4 people. As opposed to the hundreds killed by the IDF in the last few days. Sabra and Shatila... Lebanon 2 years ago... does anyone out there really believe that these actions were/are defensive? Wake up people
