The BBC will no longer show an interview in which Sir Paul McCartney impersonates Michael Jackson’s voice, it’s been reported.

The corporation is said to have feared the former Beatle’s "trans-racial impression" could have proved controversial.

Sir Paul is understood to have replied in the voice when asked to comment on the singer, according to the Telegraph.

"McCartney started to reply in this high-pitched Jacko voice, and apparently it was very funny. But the BBC - deeply nervous, perhaps because of the Jonathan Ross-Russell Brand affair - has declined to broadcast the interview,” a BBC source told the Daily Mail.

Asked to explained why the interview was deemed to have been potentially offensive, the source replied: "They say it's a 'trans-racial impression' - that's what they say in a memo - and even by Macca that is beyond the pale."

Sir Paul dueted with Jackson on the 1982 single 'The Girl Is Mine', but the pair fell out when Jackson bought the rights to part of the Beatles' music library.

As previously reported on Gigwise, Sir Paul dubbed Jackson “awfully good” at a recent press conference in London.

  • Go away Paul, and stop whinning about Michael having the catalogue, you sold it, he bought it, end of story! The BBC should axe the whole thing, Michael is a human being he is worth 10 of McCartney.

  • BBC and all the media will protect Sir paul. That's for sure because he deserves respect but Michael Jackson? no way. He deserves ridicule and insults because he is different. Who cares if he is more classy and more talented than sir paul? I feel bad for Michael Jackson for the way he was persecuted, it's not even funny. Jacko Jacko doesn't Jackson have a birth name? Paul oh Sir paul? All so respectful to him

  • Go on and defend him, MJ fans, but stop talking nonsense. McCartney is 10 times the artist he is, and will be remembered far longer than Jackson. And Jane, McCartney did not sell the catalogue to Jackson. Jackson bought it from the publishing company that owned it before, but none of the Beatles owned the publishing rights at the time. So get your information right before you spew your blind MJ-worshiping nonsense.

  • all the lennon fans should remember that because he got pissed at "men in suits, sitting on their fat arses in the City"the syndicate which would've helped the beatles retain the rights to their songs pulled out of the deal and Sir Lew Grade and ATV got the rights.the beatles had their chance and lennon blew it. macca probably is a little bitter about that.i don't think the bbc needs to protect anyone or censor macca.i don't believe he meant anything personal to MJ
