Today the Queen has announced who is making the New Year’s honour’s list and once again there are a few figures from music who have made the cut.
No doubt bolstered by Led Zeppelin’s one-off reunion show in December 2007 and his solo success alongside Alison Krauss, Robert Plant has rightfully been awarded a CBE (or a Commander of the British Empire in full). Although in my humble opinion the legendary singer deserved a full knighthood. Alongside him, jazz musician Courtney Pine has also received a CBE.
Now I’m no royalist - far from it in fact. The moment when the Queen blathered on about the credit crunch and the “difficult times” we are going through from the comfort of Buckingham Palace during her annual speech made my stomach turn for one.
But if Paul McCartney, Bob Geldof, Elton John and fucking Cliff Richard have all become Sirs there must be many more rock stars out there who also deserve the honour.
Assuming that the Queen and her team know fuck all about music compared to Gigwise, here I present a host of rock stars who surely should be known as Sir (whether they like it or not, ahem, David Bowie!)…
