US rapper's Jay-Z and P Diddy and a host of other big name supporters of Barack Obama's presidential campaign have been asked not to attend the candidate's proposed victory rally, according to reports.

Mr Obama is due to hold a ticket-only event in Chicago's Grant Park this evening where Democrat's hope he will be unveiled as America's next President.

Although the candidate is grateful for the musicians' support, his campaign team is said to be keen on having just one star – Mr Obama – in attendance.

A source told the Chicago Sun-Times: ''There will be plenty of time for a new President Obama to be surrounded by famous fans, all hopeful about a new administration.''

Hollywood actors Ben Affleck and Susan Sarandon are also cited by the newspaper as names who have been advised to miss the rally.

Mr Obama has received widespread support from musicians and celebrities during his campaign to become America's first black president.

  • I think he's right. There should be no one pulling the spotlight. He's the DIVO tonight. Go Obama.

  • VERY SMART! Rappers are not what we need tonight! I for one do not want the image of our new president to be that of hanging out with rappers they created the negative image blacks are facing now. The glory songs of violence, drugs, money...We all voted we all care we are however not all about rap music and celebrity...just plain american...! Hopefully President Obama can have a conversation with the rap moguls and talk about some positive changes they can make happen.

  • Well, its understandable. Although Jay-z did a LOT of campaigning on behalf of Barack Obama. Especially a HUGE campaign (for youth voters) in PA which was one of his best wins in the end. PEG, rappers aren't all about violence/drugs/and money. Ignorance. Do me a favor and Google what positive Jay-z did to bring fresh water to children in Africa who were drinking, bathing in, and cooking with seriously contaminated water.

  • There are many many musicians out there that love McCain/Palin - I guess we're not worth the time for you to post those names. Schmucks!

  • The only rapper to be allowed there should be Wyclef Jean, Jay z might be richer but thre is nothing sociallly and politically conscious about his music. Where the hell is Lauryn Hill in this time of our great life?
