As the new Led Zeppelin frontman...

The news that Led Zeppelin are planning to tour without the legendary Robert Plant has got me thinking about who I would hate to see step in on vocal duties.

Below is a list of ten 'rock stars' who would truly make my blood boil (not to mention hardcore Zep fans) if they appeared on-stage alongside Jimmy Page, John-Paul Jones and Jason Bonham supposedly as Led Zeppelin any time soon.

While Robert Plant is putting his feet up after his lengthy touring commitments with Alison Krauss, there's a serious risk that if the remaining members make the wrong choice they could seriously tarnish the flawless Led Zeppelin name.

Alter Bridge's Myles Kennedy is someone who is currently being brandished around by the rumour mill, but while he at least has some credibility, these ten -some of whom admittedly are a tad far fetched - are a whole lot worse.

Check who Jimmy, John-Paul and Jason should give a very wide berth below!

Post your comments below if you think any rock stars missing, or if you have any burning opinions on the issue.

  • I have a couple of artists that would be ridiculous singing in Led Zeppelin. The first one is Boy George (!!), another one could be James Blunt (can you imagine Led Zeppelin covering "You're Beautiful"?), Bryan Ferry (too glamorous) or even Fred Durst (what is he doing right now?). Great web site!

  • Sammy Hagar would be great! If you have any doubts listen to the song "Whole Lotta Zep" from Sammy's album "Not for Sale". Another great choice would be David Coverdale. He spent half of his career trying to sing like Plant but was a way better most of the time.

  • They should ask Rod Stewart. The Faces were very much the front runners of Zeppelin and both had similar styles. Besides..he needs something to bring him back to the rock world....enough of this soft rock crap. He was a true rock front man many years ago and should still have it in his blood. I heard the Faces were planning a reunion, but if that doesn't happen, the fellows should consider Stewart.

  • Actually I think Rob Halford would pull this off brilliantly and second choice would be Dave Mustaine.

  • Are you guys all on crack?, NOBODY can replace Plant in Led Zeppelin, and It is not going to be called Led Zeppelin if they tour. Jimmy has stated that without Roberts involvement the band will not be called Led Zeppelin. Thinking that you can replace Robert is both frustrating and ridiculous.

  • Hmmm... I think Robert Plant should be the front guy. I think if Robert Plant isn't going to take the gig, then the band SHOULDN'T be named "Led Zeppelin" I'd pick Brian May, or Pete Townsend.

  • jimmy should ask some old friends from back in the day if they'd like to play sing. i think this should b a tour where they all just jam out and perform like they all know how god rest bonzo

  • Face it folks, if they wouldn't tour without Bonham, what makes you think they would without Plant? These guys have held the highest standard of any band ever. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt before assuming they would make such a horrible mistake. Even fabulous singers put in that spot would look like a joke.

  • Whoever thinks David Coverdale has ever been even a small fraction of the singer and musician Robert Plant has been is completely nuts.

  • Would have been interesting to see Jimmy's original choice of a singer, the mighty SuperLungs Terry Reid step up to the mike. Though there's no returning to the past for either one of them, the paths diverged beyond any hope. Plus LZ is pretty much over....

  • none of these people compare to robert plant. His voice was extremely distinct and one of a kind. No one will ever be able to immitate the intro to the Immigrant Song and hit the notes that he did with such accuracy and skill. I personally think that once Led Zeppelin members are LEGITIMATELY going on tour, and when the find a 'replacement' for plant, he will get irritated and pissed; and step up to the plate. Because if he doesnt he is just giving himself a bad name. Have faith :)
