Madonna fans have hit out after transport problems meant many were left stranded as they tried to leave her concert at London's Wembley Stadium last night (September 11th).

The concert, the second of only two UK dates on the singer's Sticky & Sweet world tour, was watched by 90,000 people, including a host of celebrities.

But Gigwise has been inundated by fans who endured problems leaving the concert – and were also left unhappy by the singer's set list.

A number have also complained about Madonna's late arrival on stage.

“My fifth Madonna show and a bit of a disappointment,” on Gigwise reader, Chris wrote.

“I think only those at the very front had the benefit of some atmosphere, the show just wasn't big enough for Wembley Stadium - perhaps the 02 would've been better for this one...”

Vicky, who said she “loved” the concert, voiced similar concerns about the size of the venue and said her night was “completely ruined” by transport trouble.

She wrote: “The night was completely ruined by the fact that she started half hour late and the train station shut early leaving HUNDREDS of people stranded in the middle of Wembley with no way to get home.”

Madonna's 27-date world tour supports her new album 'Hard Candy'. You can see highlights from last night's show below, or more extensive coverage here.

How did you find last night's concert? Did you think the venue was wrong or experience transport problems? Let Gigwise know by filling out the form below.

  • Six of us went to see Madonna at Wembley last night. The show was fantastic with great effects, lighting and dancing. Madonna is an A1 performer - what we could see of her that is! The venue was appalling, far too big to provide any atmosphere and the sound was awful. The worst bit was being left stranded in Wembley with 1000’s of others after they closed the train station - a big thanks to Madonna for her considerate 40 minute late arrival on stage - we won’’t f

    • The late start was caused by a bank of speakers blowing out during Paul Oakenfold’s support set. Madonna’’s technicians spent ages trying to fix them, which delayed the start of the concert. They weren’’t able to repair the damage and, faced with a choice between cancelling the gig and soldiering on, they chose to soldier on, hence the sound problems in sections of the stands. The late start caused by the speaker problems had a domino effect a

    • To the someody else who replied to your comment saying the speakers blew in the support set..I used to work in a venue - it happens and on a tour of that scale that has to be expected, they should have had back-ups or been able to repair the problem, or in last resort moved people into the many empty seats i saw in the lower sections of the seating, but i still dont think it is a valid excuse, if you had actually been up there you would have seen how crap the speakers were in the first place!

    • I was in 552 and the sound was dreadful. No one around was dancing because you couldnt understand anything or see the show very well. Her sound techs should be sacked and she ought to put out a public apology. Even the t-shirts were poor! She is a fab dancer and the solo number ,without the bass from Evita, proved she can sing but the constant disco beat and bass behind every track didn’t go down well with anyone! Having been to the O2 many times that would have been a much better venu

  • I was sold a ticket on the side at the very back, the sound was absolutely terrible all bass and reverberations.I saw nothing that happened on the stage as the stage was enclosed. The screen was in front and to the side of me so no view there.I think the least you expect is to see and hear, whether you like the contents is irrelevant. She arrives half an hour late, meaning thousands of people were stranded. I left at 10.10 as I had enough.I took the day off work as well so I am not happy at all.

    • An explanation and apology for the delay would have been courtious. To say nothing indicates a high level of contempt for her fan base. The sound was appalling and the expierence of getting out to a closed station was distressing let alone dangerous. The Police handeling of the crowd was dreadful and could have produced another Hassel or Ibrox stadiun style disaster. A foolish decission to try to turn the crowd back to the still emptying stadium.

  • I totally love madonna but do think the show was just not big enough for wembley. I could hardly see anything. There was so much she could have done. And the nightmare journey home...it took me 4 hours!!! People were stranded having to get taxis! Madonna turning up late and the transport system not being able to deal with the vast amount of people that were on the tubes, trains and buses at the point of time is just insane. I’m just exhausted!

  • Devastatingly Disappointing!! Sound was absolutely appalling to those above ground level, couldnt make out ANYTHING she said to the audience, or even make out what song she was singing in several places. To top it off the big screens were a couple of seconds out of sync so equally awful to watch. Many people around us were disappointed, complaining and leaving early like us. The streets and tube stations were already packed when we left, I pity those left stranded after a rubbish night!

  • it was a disgrace... not only did the tube shut at least 40 mins before the last tube was due to leave. The police wouldn’t assist in people leaving Olympic Way. After making our way to Wembley Central the police refused to believe there was a train to Euston scheduled to leave at 00.54 and refused to let people through the barriers until one policeman finally agreed to listen to the operator at the train information line....a complete farce...thankfully we were able to get to Euston

  • Unfortunately, I believed the hype and expected a fabulous show. She started the show late, but she is a diva so what do you expect. She then went into her routine which was visually stunning, but the video / voice sync had a slight delay which was noticable. She only engaged the crowd more towards the end to finally instill some atmosphere into the performance. I think the higher up you sat, the worse the sound quality was. It was then compounded by severe transport issues. Disappointing...

The blame is Madonna’s only for being late. TFL even put buses out as soon as they knew it was going to be late despite a bus strike starting. Adding extra trains is harder. 6000 Wembley staff had to stay in the stadium overnight as well. Please stop blaming TFL. They had the trains on time - Madge wasn

I have been to many games at Wembley and transportation is normally very good, but last night was shocking... Anyway, more fool me to pay 115 to watch someone lipsync. If you were there, you will understand people’s frustration and disappointment of being let down when paying out a load of money

    • Sorry but I agree with you Lloyd. This was the fifth time I have seen madonna and although I accept some of the criticisms - such as the sound not being its best and a lack of atmosphere due to the venue being so huge (the last two shows at the arena where better) etc - I appreciate the show that Madonna put on. I drove 240 miles with my Dad to see the show and then had to drive 340 miles home which ended up being much further as I struggled to navigate out of a packed London and find the M1..

We came from Scotland and were left stranded with no idea of where we were or how to get back into central london. The police were useless and there was far too much smirking going on when asking for help. We finally got back to hotel after 4 hours of hell and a 50 taxi journey. The gig was amazing but I am totally put off not only Wembley but London due to the lack of help offered by the police and LT

Not really good enough for 75 quid a ticket. And she arrived and finished late. Thank god we got the last tube meaning we were back in S. London by 1:30am!

  • Such a shame, I was so excited, but it was a bit of a disappointment. Real lack of atmosphere, couldnt see anything and acoustics not great. Really embarrassed for her when she mucked up her lip synching in Like A Prayer which was otherwise the best song of the set - it rocked! Ray of Light though was dreadful and it’s one of my favourite songs! Droves of people left early, thankfully we left just before the end too so got home ok despite packed trains!

It was really hard to follow what was going on - to me it sounded like I was trying to hear the concert from the tube station. And she majorly fluffed her lines on 2 of the songs. I expect much more. Being at the front the sound was great, and I will admit that on a couple of the faster songs there was pre recorded backing, but she was was singing over the top of that. If you noticed she lost the words a bit to the second verse of Borderline, and sang two lines from You Must Love Me in the wrong order. I’m sure if she was purely lip synching she would have got the tracks rights??

  • I have seen Madonna on every tour she has been on. The sound last night in Wembley was appalling. Live Nation should be ashamed of themselves. The concert production was not big enough for a stadium of this size. Madonna’s spanish section of the show was a complete mess. The bulk of the crowd at the concert wanted to hear classics, not some random bloke sing Doli Doli. Next time Madonna, cut out the extras and stick to an arena, leave the stadiums to the likes of U2. Disappointed.

    • I agree about the Spanish section. I didnt pay good money to hear some random guy singing. She should have put this section at the end and then those of us who had trains to catch could have left without missing about 5 decent songs which is what we had to do. And for those of you who cant understand why the majority of us are complaining because you had a great time.. Just how much did you have to drink? The sound was awful, she was miming and was off stage as often as she was on.Rubbish.

      ~ by Anon 9/12/2008

  • I have been to two of her concerts in the past and they were very good. This one was simply awful. The screens were too small the sound was dreadful and she was late. If she wants to play the stadium rather than the arena them I suggest she gets a much bigger and better set. She has shown her contempt for fans by not even apologising for the lateness, ripping us off a fortune for tickets and generally not giving a rats botom about us. Here is one ex fan.

  • I have to agree with most of the comments made. I feel ripped off. If you were in the Gold Circle, I can understand how the concert would have been enjoyable-but for us mere mortals it was a terrible waste of money-the sound was awful and it was nigh on impossible to see Madonna. We had been promised some revolutionary staging, but there was nothing new and little that made the jaw drop-apart from Madonna hitting plenty of bum notes. Time for Madonna to retire.

The sound coming from the rear speakers was a second or more out-of-sync with the screens. Has anyone official from the tour organisers or venue explained why this happened? Paul Oakenfold blew the left speakers (people at the front saw the smoke). She could choose - cancel the gig, or try as best she could. The Metropolitan Police were useless and caused the delay which meant 30,000 people were stranded. Idiots sat on horses just smiling. Pitiful Policeforce. God help the Olympics. The worst part of the night was that Madonna came on stage bout 45 mins late which made the show over run and left 1000’’s of people including myself stranded in Wembley, where the bus links are rubbish and so I had to wait over 3 hours for

  • I think people that have written comments defending Madonna are blinkered like many who defend Michael Jackson. We were delayed going in because the sound check failed so they knew it was poor. Others have performed well in the new Wembley so no excuses there. Shouldn’t have sold seats where you can’’t see stage or screens. If she arrived on stage on time there wouldn’’t be transport issues its just that she has her head to far up her own a*** to

  • gutted me and a friend travelled from Redditch couldnt wait to see the show paid 160 each for the tickets thought we would be guaranteed a good view it was like watching a 14 tv screen 50 ft away no atmosphere stuck up in block 223 wembley to big for that kind of concert, they should have had much bigger screen for the size of the place, didn’’t notice how bad the sound was to busy trying to squint at the stage.

  • We were lucky enough to avoid the chaos of the trains debarcle but at the expenses of leaving the concert 1 hour early partly due to the fact that on arrival we found that Wembley had decided to close off a section of seating which meant we were reseated at the back. The sound vibrating off the metal stanchons meant that not only could we not see we found it impossible to hear. Wembley refused to except responsibility and we were left with no choice but to leave. 110 wasted thanks wembley

  • Have loved Madge since Holiday, you know the days when she cared enough to arrive on time, this concert sucked, Set and screens and sound system far too small for venue. Could only hear muffled bass at best, Madge was just a hazy figure in the distance - could have been anybody. Transport problems after show just about put icing on cake, every mode of wheels banjaxed, by the way, which idiot planned major roadworks on both the A1 and M1, what a bloody country.

  • To come on so late (1 hour 20 mins after support act)shows a complete lack of respect for the fans. If there are technical problems (i.e. speakers) then let people know-it’s not difficult. We got the tube but missed our last train and so ended up walking about 3 miles from station to station in the early hours (no helicopter for us unfortunately!). Show wise-We were near the front of non golden standing and it was very good. Wembley? - more people and more money from tickets! Programme

  • Having been a fan for over 20 years and seeing each tour, this was poor, Madonna was a dot on the horizon, sound quality at the back poor and screens didn’t match sound. Couldn’’t see her and couldn’’t hear her properly so what did I pay for? Very little imagination to performance with this years Hardy Candy promo and Live Earth performances repeated and even 12 year old Evita footage used! I have come to expect and get more from Madonna. Then to be amongst the thousands left stranded - to be sworn at by a PC just for asking for help on where to go, he said ’’don’’t give a S**t, I don’’t want to be here - I’’ve been drafted in from south London, so f**king move on’’ -

  • Whatever the criticisms of the singing/dancing etc, fact is that this was a poorly organised show - promotors obviously got greedy and sold seats that they shouldn’t have...and forgot it was in a stadium not an arena. We paid 175 each for seats in block 229 and found we had no view of the stage. People at the end of our block couldn’’t even see the screens either! But at least we had sound, unlike the other side of the stadium. Really poor organisation.

We missed our last train home (1.35am) had to spend the night at St Pancras, finally arriving home at 7am. IT’’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

She was so late, it was funny, couldnt see the screens that were provided, couldnt here half the songs because the sound was just plain bad to say the least and then the journey home, lucky we catched the train back to Waterloo but then to get back to Hampshire was the problem, had to get a train at 1:05am and not even to our station, but another one 20minutes away en taxi ride was extra....

  • I have been to Madonna’s concerts before. This was not good. Her performance was lack lustre. She must have had another argument with Guy beforehand, as her mind was not on her own performance. Also if I want to see and listen to guitar rock, I would have went to a guns and roses concert.

It seems I made the right decision not to go. How sad to read all these comments - people are obviously upset. I think on a wider scale artists and promoters should think carefully on what they think justifies the ticket price.

It was a poor show too!!

There was virtually pointless video screens out of focus and the whole thing sounded terrible. And that was in the 160 pound seats! Massive fan massively let down.

However, the fact is the sound was so poor that I could hear people chatting – that never happens at a concert! For the most part I couldn’t even hear her.
