Madonna Wows Celebrity Crowd With Epic Wembley Stadium Show Add to My Fav Bands List

Madonna wowed fans last night (September 11th) as her Sticky & Sweet world tour called at London's Wembley Stadium.

The pop star was watched by over 90,000 people, including celebrity fans Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson and Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie.

The elaborate show, which was only the second of two UK dates, featured four sections: 'Pimp', 'Old School', 'Gypsy' and 'Rave'.

The singer, who will play a total of 27-dates, honoured her latest album, ‘Hard Candy’, during her two hour set.

But also played a number of tracks from her back catalogue, including ‘Vogue’ and ‘Music’.

You can see highlights from the London show below or click HERE for more extensive coverage.

  • My 1st Madge concert and I really loved it although it could have done with a bit more warming up as people around me didnt seem that interested and sat down most of the time. Her old songs got the crowd going the most and I only wish I had been closer to the stage rather then watching it through the TV screens. The night was completely ruined by the fact that she started half hour late and the train station shut early leaving HUNDREDS of people stranded in the middle of Wembley with no way to g

  • My fifth Madonna show and a bit of a disappointment. I think only those at the very front had the benefit of some atmosphere, the show just wasn’t big enough for Wembley Stadium - perhaps the 02 would’’ve been better for this one... Or time for her to make up with her brother and bring him back for artistic direction... Still, she worked hard and looked and sounded better than ever

  • 45mins late on stage, no support act. Far too many arty gimmicks and not enough of her great songs. Those that did come were towards the end when we had to leave early (as she was so late on) to catch a train! Not value for money.

    • Did you miss Paul Oakenfold at 7pm then????

      ~ by MADFAN 9/12/2008

    • I hate to be pedantic but Paul Oakenfold was performing till about 19:30. Even so, Madonna was a poor substitute for Kylie who at least had the decency to play a smaller venue for multiple nights.

      ~ by John C. 9/12/2008

    • Obviously you weren’t at this show. If you were then how do you fail to acknowledge the Paul Oakenfold section. Yes he wasn’’t there until the start of the show but how else do you expect to clear his equipment and prepare the stage? There are far too many people here quick to criticise. If you don’’t like her don’’t go. People should focus more on the poor service of the stewards who completely messed up hot ticket holders ea

  • I went to Madonna’s concert last night and said it was the worst concert I’’ve ever been to. Terrible acoustics, very poor singing and lip synching, no guitar playing skills and Madonna spent 60% of the time on stage and the rest of the time showing videos of herself. It was a shocker. She couldn’’t even get the place rocking. Even her die-hard fans up front only waved their arms on a few occasions. The whole middle section was stand static. Ver

    • Johnny You said exactly what I wanted to say - very poor show and performance from Madonna, she is supposed to be the Queen of Music and it was a terrible show with the worst sound system and a stage set for a small theatre. A very dissappointed fan indeed. People who said it was amazing must have been in the first front rows as I could hardly see or hear anything. Felt robbed especially when she can’t be bothered to turn up on time - leaving hundreds of people stranded.

    • You are just one of those people who like to incite hate. The show was great. Lip syncing was not present and if you know Madonna you will know she always has interludes to give her time to change costumes. As this is quite consistent of all Madonna shows then as Madonna says you should have done your homework before buying tickets.

  • What a let down...no atmosphere, Madge kept us waiting far too long, sounded poor from high up where we were and couldnt see stage or screens. No support band to keep crowd interested. Very dissapointed to have spent so much money on a very average night. Left early and still took hours to get home. Wembley ran out of booze and I wish I had stayed in !

  • I went last night and it was a disaster - miming through most of the show, no atmosphere, no warm up act, gates opened an hour late as she was still rehearsing and train station closed early and thousands of people couldn’t get home - total disgrace and a complete waste of money - time to retire gracefully

  • I’ve been to see her many times but decided to leave early due to terrible sound quality, I didn’’t even recognise ’’’’Borderline’’’’ til half way through and I thought she was lost at the venue. The video screens were too small and the lip sync was terrible. All in all a very disappointing night - I joined a queue to fill out a complaint form and will be asking for my money back....

  • I would have to say this is the worst concert I’ve ever been to. I’’ve been to plenty in my time so I have a lot to compare to and unfortunately I would have to say that Sugarbabes (Nelson Mandela concert) were only slightly worse. Why oh why oh why did they not build Wembley Stadium to suit concert acoustics? We were in block 501 right at the back and we couldn’’t really hear her most of the time and we were able to have a conversation!!! Ve

  • Paul Oakenfold was a lacklustre warm up - another has been who could have been replaced with someone actually passionate about DJing these Days and from what we saw the show was ok....some very snazzy lighting effects.... However that said we were up in the gods and I forgot my high powered binoculars so saw nothing and what was being shown on the screens was so out of sync because of the distance it was a joke....we walked out well before the end and felt completely robbed...

  • Not sure everyone else was at the same concert - it Madgetastic, I loved every minute and wanted more, Madonna was brilliant and the show as good as I’ve seen before - and that was a long time ago - oh, and I left after the gig had finished and has no trouble with trains, there were loads. All well organised. Stop moaning rich kids!

  • We had major problem at Madonna gig last night, our seats which were covered up with tarpaulin. As is the British way we were told fault lies with someone else, Live Nation the promoter not Wembley. We had no choice but take the seats offered behind the production tower with restricted view, tickets that they simply would not have been able to sell. We tried to make the best of the evening the shows visual delights were good, enjoyed by looking at a screen in a stadium with no atmosphere

  • For those of you who were up there with the gods...the situation on the pitch was not much better! Yes we could hear well BUT far too crowded, stage too low to see anything above the heads and the lip-sync was as bad. Yes she is a great artist but It would have been nice to actually withness it - which we didn’t. Not value for money, a dissapointment compared to the Arena 2 years ago.

  • My first Madge concert and I feel absolutely robbed! Gates opened an hour late, then to be kept waiting further when we finally got in was a disgrace. Left early as totally bored with not being able to see the stage or screens along with stroppy people who wouldn’t let you through to get to the toilets without giving you a look of death for moving! Maybe if she’’d come ontime people would have been in a better mood. Total complete waste of time and money!!

  • ..further to my previous post, Having contacted Ticketmaster about our seating issue and they are investigating as they had no idea of the problem prior to our call. Their initial comments were, yes you guessed it, that the issue was with Wembley not their fault! We will be pursuing a refunding encourage everyone involved to do the same! All I can say at this stage is I just hope that none of the parties involved have anything to do with the 2012 Olympics!

  • I agree with all the comments that have been made apart from Judge Johnson who must have been wearing rose tinted glasses. I have seen Madonna a number of times before, but it was awful. The sound was terrible and along with thousands of others left well before the end. Unfortuantely I don’t think I will be going to see her again anytime soon.

  • Massively disappointed! Out of tune, bunch of ’tic toc tic toc’’ drivel. No atmosphere, over priced, mimed pile of tutt. Will never bother to go and see Madonna again! Probably won’’t go to another Wembley gig again as the sound was terrrible and the surrounding area is still a cesspit! The O2 rules!

  • Absolutly appauled by last nights performance. 45 minutes late on stage, no word of an apology for fans who have spent up to 400 on tickets. Caused havoc on the trains. Couldn’t see stage or screens, could hardly make out the songs ( I could actually talk easliy on the phone while she was performing) no atmosphere at all. Complete waste of money.

  • This was my second concert last night. My first was at Manchester which was fantastic. This time I took my two step children age 13 and 14. I have to say that we loved every minute of the show. Give her a break she is the Queen of Pop. She has a better body than anybody in the music world right now. She has an attitude that would out do the Lilly Allens of this world. She knows her stuff. She even managed to get a very strong message accross to the crowd that we need to look after the world

  • I thought Madonna was fantastic last night the lady is amazing, her dance routines are the best. I was standing and the sound was great there was no problems. The staff at wembley are unprofessional there didnt seem to be any kind of control and nobody seemed to know what was happening, we were pushed and shoved outside and had to run to get in through the doors. Apart from being left waiting to long A FANTASTIC SHOW MADONNA

  • This is the 3rd Madonna gig I have been to and I have to say that the new Wembley Stadium is not a great venue. Having paid 160 for seats in the Club Wembley section, I needed binoculars to see her on stage and the video screens were way too small. As for the content of the show, I thought it was brilliant and lived up to her creative brilliance. The queen of pop knows how to put on a great show and last night was no exception. Accoustics were fine. Venue too big, screens too small.

  • I can’t believe how rude some people have been. She was amazing! I was sat right up in the gods and the sound quality was fine. There was some backing with her voice recorded but it was the nature of the song! Anyone who knows the bare minimum about music would realise that she was singing the song and it was just the harmonies that were on the backing. Most of the people around me were having fun. It was only the old fudy dudies, who obviously didn’’t know any of t

  • I was front row, and absolutely loved it!! Paul Oakenfold was awsome. Ya it sucked that Madge showed up 40 mins late, but honestly, it’s quite known that she shows up late. I was standing for close to 3 hours before she came on stage and am totally not complaining! I loved it! My friend and I decided against taking london transport, incase the show ran later then inticipated. I am a little bit baffled as to how many people got stranded. It’’s london! Everyone known

  • Totally agree with you!! I thought it was awsome!! It’s Madge!!! She’’s known to be late. Get over it! Everyone knows london transport ends at midnight! The thing that pissed me off, was the police on horses! They did not need soo many police, forcing everyone in 1 way. I did not need to use the tube and wanted to use the ramp, up to the main road. Police were not letting anyone use the bloody ramp, so I’’m sure loads of people would have made it
