Drugs and alcohol are of course synonymous with music. While there are those who can ride the cliché, take a shit-load of drugs and seemingly get away with it, there are others who overtly pay the price. Gigwise takes a look at some figures in the music world who really look worse for wear after becoming embroiled in narcotics or alcohol addiction. A quick warning - some of them ain't pretty!

Since when has age and increased weight anything to do with drug abuse. You’re comparing apples with oranges. Show pictures with no more than 12 months in between.

I would like to see the picture of this article author when he/she was young and compare it 20 years later. Forget about drugs or alcohol, just pick a picture of anybody when he was 20 and another when reached 40 or more. The efeect will be the same.

Stop trying to stick up for these DRUGGIES, Jono. Drugs are bad and should not be glorified or defended. Well done Gigwise for displaying the ravaging effects of drug abuse (medicinal or otherwise) over time. Of course age is a factor, but face facts, but how can you deny that the appearance of many people on this list has been damaged by their addiction?

These people are shown 20 or more years later with all the effects of a very powerful drug called \'aging\' and these are bad photos that they are blinking the eye for example, its a very dumb comment about the photos and one of the most stupid articles ive ever seen.

Can’t believe I actually bothered to waste my time looking at some candid pictures comparing how someone looks now with a ”before” pictured carefully produced, staged, etc taken 10, 20, 30+ years ago! I must be losing my marbles almost as badly as whoever put this sorry-assed ”article” together. Peter Doherty is a poet, singer, songwriter, musician and thinker. He is more talented than most of the people in this article! How you can call Kurt Cobain a ’musical legend’’ but not Pete Doherty confuses me...the papers and magazines see him as a hate figure but he doesnt care and he loves it. Im only 14 but i strongly idolise Pete...and aspire to have a music career like his. Pete Doherty Is Innocent.

Uhm, hello? You CANNOT compare a man when he was 20 to when he is 60 and call the changes the effects of drug abuse. It's called AGING. Try to keep it within 5 years. And it might help if the faces are expressionless ? For example, the Brittany Spears picture? She doesn't look drugged, she looks like shes bawling her eyes out. Nice try, but...no.
