Pete Doherty Royal Albert Hall Show Hit By Stage Invasion

He talks about prison too...

Share

Pete Doherty triumphed at a solo show in front of 5,500 people at the hallowed surroundings of the Royal Albert Hall in London on Saturday night (July 12).

Despite the well received set full of Libertines and Babyshambles classics, a stage invasion at the end forced Doherty to cut the encore short.

Around 100 fans clambered onto the stage while Pete was performing 'I Wish' before security intervened and Pete sloped off stage. Some fans fell from the stage in the carnage.

Earlier in the night, a fresh faced Pete arrived onstage looking strangely resplendent in a full dark suit and white shirt and proceeded to bash out acoustic versions of hits including 'Lady Don't Fall Back', 'What Became Of The Likely Lads', 'This is for Lovers', 'Bollywood To Battersea' and 'Fuck Forever.'

The show was originally scheduled for April 26, but was postponed when Doherty was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison for breaching probation earlier this year. He eventually served just 29 days.

Pete took time to have a cheeky swipe at fans who'd written letters to him in prison about the cancelled show. He quipped to the crowd: "I got a few letters when I was in Wormwood Scrubs about how inconvenient it was. I thought 'Yeah, it must be really difficult' as I sat in my little cell."

He also recounted tales of hedonistic adventures with former Libertine band member Carl Barat and at one point got out a pair of binoculars so he could see the back of the room.

  • I was one of the few hundred people who did Invade the stage,It was right at the end of the night and these things have happened before at libertines/babyshambles gigs. With such little security and a very passionate crowd I could always see this was going to happen.

  • The stage invasion made it! It was hilarious - people moaning about this clearly are not of libertine nature! I thought it was excellent and just wished I’d been closer to the front so I could have got involved too. Up the Albion!

  • I\'d gone to view the building -pity he was on -didn\'t know any songs and couldn\'t understand what he was saying or singing. The invasion was awlful -I don\'t know why he was allowed to play in such a fine venue-he should be in a field - along with the rest of his followers.

  • You poor misguided morons. The stage invasion by the idiots at the end spoiled what was otherwise an intimate performane......It was neither a Libertines or a Babyshambles gig, Ollie. People should learn to have a little more respect....Up the albion indeed, what a joke.
