US rapper Jay-Z says Noel Gallagher should have watched one of his live shows before declaring that hip-hop music was “wrong” for Glastonbury.

The Oasis guitarist voiced his concern about Jay-Z's appearance at the festival earlier this year, saying the rapper had “no chance” in front of the event's crowds.

However, Jay-Z proved his doubters wrong during his performance on Saturday (June 28th), which was watched by one of the biggest crowds of the weekend.

Speaking ahead of the set, the rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, said that Gallagher's comments were “made out of ignorance.”

"If Noel Gallagher had seen me perform and said that then I'd understand it,” he said.

“That is a personal opinion and I have no bearing on how he feels. You know - it's just not your taste.

“But he has never seen me perform. I'm sure, or else he wouldn't say that. We will see what happens."

Jay-Z's booking had been one of the most controversial in the events history and was blamed for causing a drop in demand for tickets.

  • JAY Z was terrible. But thanks to him Noel and Oasis get free worldwide publicty. Noel will be happy. He never backs down from a war of words. Jay’s wonderwall rendition was pointless. If he incorporated an Oasis track into his set and rapped over it maybe that would have been better. But he just looked a complete idiot.

    • Jay Z was without doubt one of the highlights of the festival - you write utter rubbish Johan. Be quiet.

  • Jay Z was great. People need to be a bit more open-minded. Glasto isn’t a private club where you need a guitar to get in. Get your head out of the sand

  • As a born Brooklynite, I admit that I am biased for Jay Z. You gotta admit though, he was creative! His performance was hot.....stop hating!!

  • I wasnt even at Glasto but saw it on the tv and could see Jay-Z completely rocked the main stage. Oasis did a few years ago when I was there as well. Its completely different music, but I think it did GLasto good and he had a massive turn out. If you dont like it, simply don’t watch it. CWell funny start to his set as well. Noel and his dimwit brother should realise its not all about them. Nobs

  • i don’t like rap music but i was amazed at his performance, i will be buying his cd and im amazed i was so predijuiced to that kind of music. Good on you for proving me wrong. I realised glastonbury had became what it set out to destroy, arrogant, elitist, and snobbish, this one will go down in history, on you go boy!

  • People have no other choice but to accept that Hip Hop has placed itself into the global community. You don't like it, tough! Many people who do not like Rock but listen to Hip Hop often embrace Rock bands who perform next to Hip Hop acts. So I find it a bit ironic people like Noel would make a fool of himself, assuming Emcees appear out of place in a Rock event, when Hip Hop has "Been There, Done That"!
