Radiohead Debut New Song At Dublin's Malahide Castle Add to My Fav Bands List

Radiohead debuted new song, ‘Super Collider’, during their two-night residency at Malahide Castle in Dublin over the weekend.

The band’s outdoor shows – on Friday (June 6th) and Saturday (June 7th) – were the opening nights of their European tour.

After performing the new song, which simply features frontman Thom Yorke on piano, for the first time on Friday, they added it to their final encore on Saturday.

Yorke told the crowd beforehand that he would try to remember the words to the song after forgetting them on the opening night.

Radiohead’s performance on Saturday borrowed heavily from their latest album ‘In Rainbows’, opening with ’15 Step’ and ‘Bodysnatchers’.

Newer songs ‘All I Need’, ‘Videotape’ and ‘Nude’ also stood up well against songs from the bands back-catalogue.

As with the opening night, the crowds were spoiled by the glorious weather that had graced much of Ireland’s capital throughout the day.

  • I was the Saturday night gig. What a concert, I still can’t stop thinking about it. Pyramid Song was probably the best, such a beautiful song and the setting was perfect, the moon was directly over the stage with the sunset beaming through the trees surrounding the concert site. Please come back Radiohead! I’’ll never forget that performance!

  • I was at the gig saturday night and I was really disappointed. The setting was amazing, the crowd excited and yet we were given a below par set. Too many new not yet trusted songs! We wanted the favourites, the ones we have been singing to for years. Where were they? Is anyone going to tell me Tom would have delivered that to the Reading festival crowd?

    • retard, they are there to promote in rainbows, their new album, which is outstanding by the way. up there with ok computer and the bends. the albums been out for nearly 9 months aswell so give it a listen before you comment on it ya twat. i thought the gig was great, new songs were beautiful and hearing "exit music" live blew me away

  • I was at Fridays show. I would have to say that the gig only suited hardcore Radiohead fans, only a few songs from the bends closing the night rescued the evening for me. It was definately not a show for a general audience, there was very little interaction with the crowd which left pretty much as they arrived.

  • Radiohead milking it in my opion. Totally agree with Tony but would also add that the easy access to beer was also responsible for saving the evening. I would go out on a limb and say that only a very small % of the audience were satisfied with the performance. Certainly anecdotal evidence from those I’ve spoken to would suggest this.

  • I was at the Saturday show and thought it was great. I would agree that it was geared more torwards true fans - anyone hoping to hear Creep would have been sorely disappointed. But I do not understand the complaints about playing songs from In Rainbows. It was not a festival, it was a band touring off the back of their new album. What were people expecting them to play?

  • I think it was terrible , they may aswell have played in the castle to themselves , no crowd interaction at all. They could have rocked the place by putting in a few of their older songs to the set. Had a great day with my friends is about the best I can say about that.

  • A true Radiohead fan chiming in here. My husband and I traveled all the way from New York City to see the Friday night show. It was a mellower set than the two other Radiohead concerts I’ve seen - all three in large outdoor venues. That may be a big part of the problem for the naysayers above. You probably couldn’’t see how animated Thom was - even during the quieter songs from In Rainbows. Overall, the show represented the band’’s history o

  • i really dont know what these people are complaining about. the sets on both nights were fantastic. great variety, they played songs from all their albums bar Pablo Honey. what exactly did you expect? Creep and High and Dry on a loop for 2 hours? radiohead shows are indeed geared toward the fans, i.e. the people who are seriously interested in their music. if you come to the show expecting to hear Creep, dont bother buying the tickets in the first place, there will be more left for the fans.

  • was at the Sat nite nd gotta say it was 1 of the best concerts Iv ever been at!! I do agree with the commments above sayin they played a lotta new stuff and the older stuff they chose was more suited to hardcore fans, not their well known commercial songs, but I think that was to be expected. It was the In Rainbows tour....They obviously want to promote and test their new tracks! the set was amazing, great to hear some of the more rare old tracks like the gloaming live! i loved it...

  • You people who think that the show was terrible and are never going to see them again I say thank you. You probably are not fans of the band anyways, just "Creep" and it will be easier for me and other "true" fans to get tickets to see them in the future. Go see Coldplay when they come around, I am sure you will appreciate them much more. LOL!!!!

  • Saturday at Malahide! Left with the feeling the band got together just a couple days before the gig and rearranged planned sets to exclude big numbers that might look like they were pandering to the Greatest Hits album. Long gaps between numbers and little mishaps disjointed the performance and broke the night. Thom thanked the crowd for their loyalty. Maybe this great band should have risen above their spat with EMI and show more loyalty to what was a really-up-for-it crowd.

  • went to the saturday night. it was my second time to see them. it was mellow gig, perfect for the day that was in it!! there there, idioteque, everthing, and pyramid song were my favourites. i dont know how anybody can give out about playing most of their new album, first of all if you had listened to it, its a quality album and second of all thats what bands do when they go on tour after releasing a new album and the reals fans want to hear the new stuff live, like reckoner omg genius!!!!

  • Radiohead can play which ever songs they want to. They don’t have to please the fans. Even so, all their music is amazing, so I don’’t see how you could be disappointed
