Russian have won the 2008 Eurovision song contest with ‘Believe’, sung by Dima Bilan.

In a dramatic live final in Belgrade, Bilan’s song received a total of 272 points from twenty-four voting countries across Europe.

Ukraine finished second in the competition with 230 points, with Greece scoring 218 points in third.

The United Kingdom, who were represented by former X-Factor runner up Andy Abrahams (pictured), finished joint last with 14 points.

Broadcaster Terry Wogan, who presented the United Kingdom’s coverage of the event, described Abraham’s position as a “tremendous disappointment” for the country.

Over half of the UK’s points tally came courtesy of close neighbours Ireland.

Dance producer Sebastien Tellier, who controversially represented France with ‘Divine’, which is sung in English, took home 47 points.

  • Is the best possible example of why the UK should walk away from a fully integrated Europe

  • Its all Voting is all political, if its to survive then it needs a new voting system where the public can vote and it not be corrupt!

  • Firstly, I thought the voting was outrageous. This is not just sour grapes but Andy Abraham deserved to do much better than he did. I am aware that the BBC partially funds the event but we must show the EBU that unless the system changes, many Western European countries will begin to get very annoyed.

  • I’m a Ukrainian; dwell in Moscow. Everybody who’s in their senses down here understand that EV’s a show for housewives and don’t take it seriously. Though the rest think the victory in Eurovision is smth like victory in the World War II. After Dima won I understood it was a political step. And not only me, I assure you. BTW, I cheered for the British contestant, for he sounded at least natural among all those plastic toys. Though I didn’t watch the ’show’
