Paul McCartney Album To Be Given Away With Newspaper

In two weeks...

Sir Paul McCartney is to give away his latest album, ‘Memory Almost Full’, with editions of the Mail on Sunday, it’s been announced.

The former Beatle’s album, which was originally released on Starbucks’ Hear Music label last year, will come free with the May 18th edition of the newspaper.

McCartney is the latest big name artist to complete a deal with the paper, who last year gave away Prince’s ‘Planet Earth’ for free.

More recently, UB40 gave fans with a ten track sampler of their new album ‘Twentyfourseven’ as one of the paper's supplements.

When it was released last year, McCartney’s album charted at number five in the UK, selling over 100,000 copies, reports Music Week.

  • What a sad state the music business has become. Artists who are now in the twilight of their careers are giving away their records in a bid to remain famous and chart active.

  • Or, he’s realized that traditional record companies have lost the competition with the internet, and is taking action to bring his music to an audience that may have missed it because of the extreme dumbness of the rock critics. Could be that, too.

  • Well(Im Mike from Sweden) I think its a pity that one of the greatest musicians and composer in our time,or in the history, must give away his music like this ! I guess its because of the fast development of internet and the musicbussines. But,im 53, I prefered it the way it was before. Good bless Paul and his music.

  • Paul McCartney must be losing his MIND. I admire his musicianship immensely, but some of the things he does JUST DON’T MAKE SENSE. An album giveaway? I wonder if it has anything to do with the Starbucks label’s disintegration...maybe he has zillions of ”Memory Almost Full” cluttering up his more-than-spacious living room and he’s gotta dump ’em fast. I just don’t get it. McCartney is (almost) as good as he ever was, but this move really confounds me.

  • And I’m sad because, meanwhile, here in Brazil we have to pay a little fortune for this album :-(

  • It´s a slap in the face for everybody who has already paid for this album. In fact with actions like this the fans which are so silly to still buy music get punished.

  • If this album came out in 1972 it would have sold 50 million copies and it would have been #1 on the charts all year !!!!! And the following year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don’t know why this is so bad. McCartney is the best there is. He knows what he is doing and if he want to give it away then he can give it away. You never know he may just attract new fans to his music. Did I mention cash?

  • I wouldn’t buy that tabloid rag if they offered all of the Beatles albums for free. What next, a free copy of Memory Almost in Oatmeal boxes? 80% of people who buy this rag on the 18th will use the Memory Almost Full cd as a beverage coaster. This is the worst album McCartney has ever released. Why McCartney continues to embarrass himself is beyond comprehension. I lost all respect for McCartney when he started dating that douchebag Heather Mills less than a year after his wife died. End o

  • Whoa, settle down there Phil. What’s wrong with Paul exposing his music to people who otherwise wouldn’t hear it? Yes, he made a mistake with Heather Mills, but he now realizes that and has rectified it (with dignity I may add). He has absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about.

  • The album is awful. The best thing Paul could do is make a bonfire out of the CDs or give them to Heather as part of the divorce settlement... How he could have made such a poor album compared to his previous work defies logic. Maybe he needs Linda to help him make good music?
