Madonna Defends Miley Cyrus Over Vanity Fair Photo Shoot Add to My Fav Bands List

Madonna has come to the defence of teenage American actress Miley Cyrus – who recently appeared in a suggestive photo shoot for Vanity Fair.

Speaking to MTV News about the pictures, which show the 15-year-old wrapped in a sheet with her back exposed, Madonna said that “everyone should just leave her alone”.

Cyrus, who has shot a number of films for Disney, including Hannah Montana, has been widely criticised over the pictures and has confessed to feeling “embarrassed” by them.

However, Madonna said the pictures were “not a big deal”.

"People are just bored. Leave the poor girl alone,” the pop star explained.

“She's going to grow up soon, she's going to probably show her knees next — watch out."

Earlier this week, a spokesperson for Disney described the pictures as "a situation [that] was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines."

The picture was taken by photographer Annie Leibovitz, whose work has often provoked mixed reactions.

Madonna was joined by Justin Timberlake for a secret show in New York on Wednesday (April 30th).

  • I think Miley is a young girl who was taken advantage of and Annie Leibovitz should be ashamed of herself. Miley is a beautiful person. Annie Leibovitz could have communicated that with her camera without having Miley remove her clothes. I think any 15 year-old girl could have fallen into that trap. Shame on Vanity Fair. I no longer have an interest in their publications and I think we should let these magazines know that is it is wrong to exploit human beings just to make a buck.

  • It’s not the Victorian Era people give it a rest she 15 not 12 and it’s not like she is nude, the pictures are tastful not porn. The people who are making a big deal out of this should worry about controlling what their kids see anyways, I don’t really think Vanity Fare is or should be read by this girls core audience anyways.

  • I think everyone needs to leave Miley alone. There is nothing wrong with the pictures. So what!, so shes showing her back. Its not like her damn boobs or ass was popping out! The media has nothing better to do than try to make someone look like trash. Why?! Because they know trash sells! We all should know better than to think that Miley is just another Brittney or Jamie Spears! Miley comes from a well balanced family who strives on wholesome family values. So I say stop taunting this poor girl.
