Glastonbury organisers have once again defended the decision to book Jay-Z as a headliner for this year’s festival but have admitted that rapper’s camp have been ‘rattled’ by the public’s response.

Emily Eavis told the Guardian that they are sticking by the decision despite it being a “curve ball” for some of its regular punters.

Denying that Jay-Z had ever considered pulling out she said: "I think his team are thinking: what's going on here? What is this reaction?”

She added: "We have lost some fairweather friends, yes. We've made a bit of a curveball decision.

"But we feel we've made a really important decision and we're absolutely going to stick by it because we think it's going to be amazing."

    • it absolutely won’t! If Michael Eavis wants Hip-Hop why not book some UK Hip-Hop acts?

    • Eavis has been blaming the mud and the price of the tickets on low sales. He says that he has to put the price of the tickets up to be able to raise 2mill for charity. He doesn’t actually give it. All those stewards from Wateraid and Oxfam work for the money and he gets a tax break.

    • it won’t. if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I hope this years ticket sales disaster will bring a ’back to roots’ glastonbury next year.

    • By booking Jay-z it may have alienated some of the regular fans but it has opened up an event to thousands more, like myself, who never would have been as interested in going had they not done something different. Having seen Jay-Z come on with Kanye West in Manchester this year i can guarantee he will charge the atmosphere and put on a good show.

    • Who cares, Glastonbury is a large festival with a lot of stages. If you dont like JayZ, dont go & see him. I for one hopes that Derrick May will be headlining the West Coast Dance tent - that is where you will find me. I think this has been blown out of proportion, and people should not be put off glastonbury because of 1 ACT, out of the 1000’s performing. Apparently Dizzie Rascal will be performing - Im not seeing him either. And for my 2p worth - i dont think Jay Z will be amaz
