If the RSPCA press charges against him...

The quite legendary Mark E Smith is reportedly said to be facing an official RSPCA investigation after he admitted to killing squirrels in his back garden.

The Fall singer made the revelation in an interview with Uncut magazine, saying that he killed them after he saw them eating on his fence.

Smith also laughed when the interviewer told him that his dad had run over a seagull, saying: “Heh, heh, heh. Quite fucking right. I don't have a problem with that."

A clearly outraged Klare Kennett from the RSPCA told the Daily Mail in response: "The comments made by Mark E Smith are extremely irresponsible and he has basically admitted to committing an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act by killing two red squirrels.

"These animals are highly protected and anyone killing, harming or taking red squirrels from the wild is liable to prosecution and can face up to six months in prison and/or a fine of up to £20,000.

"If he is getting confused and talking about grey squirrels, then killing them without a good reason - eating food put out for them is not a good reason - could also be an offence under certain circumstances."

  • What the hell is this whole red squirrel thing about? people prefer the colour of the red ones so theyre more protected? that makes me sick.

    • Its because the red squirrel is native to the UK and the grey squirrel which came over here from the US is taking over its habit and slowly wiping it out.

  • Haha Jimbo, Dimbo more like! Grey squirrels are a pest ’cos (as subversive says) they were brought over from America & made a negative impact on the ecosystem & almost wiped out the native red squirrel which are now endangered. So there you go!

  • Dimbo is obviously as ignorant as the ”legendary” Mark E. Smith when it comes to this country’s wildlife. I hope the RSPCA get him convicted for this. At least that might stop his Hideous Ugliness from droning over the top of instrumentals in the name of ”music” for a while. Lock him up!

  • I don’t remember quite this level of outrage 10 years ago when he beat his ex-wife up after the Fall’s infamous New York show. But then domestic violence never tugged on the British heartstrings quite as much as cute furry animals getting blootered.
