Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters Are BRITs Big Winners

Take That also triumph...

Arctic Monkeys sarcastically  paid tribute to the BRIT school, despite having no association with the establishment as they walked away with the two biggest awards at last nights BRIT Awards.

The Sheffield band picked up Best British Album and Best British Group at the ceremony at Earls Court in London.

The Foo Fighters and Take That were the nights other double winners, with the former winning Best International Group and Best International Album.

Dressed as country gents, the band, who shunned last year’s awards, accepted Best Group, saying: "We are the Arctic Monkeys. We are the most fantastic.”

It’s the third year in a row that the band have scooped prizes at the BRITs, which this year were hosted by the Osbourne family.

Elsewhere, Kate Nash took home Best Female holding of the favourite Leona Lewis who walked away from the ceremony empty handed.

Mark Ronson graciously accepted Best British Male and made reference in his speech to the fact that he had spent most of his life in America.

US rapper Kanye West was crowned Best International Male and Kylie Minogue Best International Female.

As the awards drew to a controversial close, Sir Paul McCartney performed a medley of hits, which included, ‘Live And Let Die’ and ‘Hey Jude’, to celebrate being given the Outstanding Contribution Award.

  • so did the members of the arctics go to the ’Brit School’ or what? They said they did, they said the knew people in the audience, they said that they’had a great time there, but better since we left.’ Are they just another marketing concept?

  • Arctic Monkeys are class, even when they’re drunk :( They were being sarcastic when they ’thanked’ the Brit school. They got cut off too, they put up fake applause and cut to an interview. Shame that Scotland’s #1 album selling 20 yr old Amy Macdonald didn’t even get a nomination, as much as I like Kate Nash, Amy’s album is one of the best debuts I’ve ever heard.

  • The brit school is another typical brit-establishment, like the BBC. By the few, for the few, and feeding off itself until interbred.. like the privileged few. Media airtime, news coverage, and awards ceremonies notwithstanding, the arctics managed to achieve greater success without all that phony guff. I guess Alex Turner was trying to speak up against the brit school killing music, like Emin & Hirst and Young British Artists did to british art. Talent doesn’t matter, only the right c
