Gerard Way: 'I Miss Being In A Rock Band'

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has admitted that the band’s exuberant stage show has caused them to miss being in a conventional rock band.

The group won praise throughout 2007 for their Black Parade spectacle – which took its inspiration from their 2006 album ‘The Black Parade’.

However, the group downsized the show towards the end of their live commitments for the album – something which Way says will reflect in their future material.

“I think (the next album) will definitely be stripped down. I think the band misses being a rock band,” he said.

“That doesn’t mean we won't explore really crazy ideas on the next albums, or do something even crazier.”

He continued: “It doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll start to take steps backwards creatively. But it felt in a live sense, this is what we do great live.

“And we’re better musicians for having written and played 'The Black Parade', so you're dealing with (the fact that) everybody's better as musicians and singers.”

“So to have that to play with in a live sense is really thrilling. We can cut loose more,” he added.

Way also told NME that their new material, including one song which has been road tested already, was a return to “punk rock music” for the band.

- I freaking agree! Anything you guys do is amazing!!! Drop it if you want to! Shed another layer, it doesn’t matter....you’re still going to have millions of fans! I’ve been a fan since I heard ”Honey” and I still am. You’ve got to break free if you really want to. I love My Chem, they are amazingly creative and have trully evolved from Bullets all the way up to TBP, and they keep going on at it. I honestly believe they need a break, they’ve been touring nonstop for the past year and a half, plus they went straight from recording the album to touring. And before that, they went from touring straight to recording. I just hope they will be ok, we’re here to cover their backs.

I can’t wait for a new album. I love them so much! They really tell something in their songs. Life isnt always fun, and they just know that. I hate singers/bands who always say that life is great. and OOH i’m in lovee.. xD SO I just want their new album. Its gonna be great anyway! xoxo

i love mcr... saved my life.. help me threw everything.. and people who hate them.. fuck you. you dont eevn understand what this band does for people all the struggles.. all the depression.. the inspiring lyrics.. great advice on how to survive in the someofabitch world we live in.. helping us to understand that being differnt is ok.. that outsiders are people too.. i love mcr.. hopefully their next album will help out people.. and send out a great message.. ily mcr!!!!
