Organisers of the Reading and Leeds festivals have revealed the event will be headlined this year by three American acts.

However, in the fashion of Michael Eavis the names of the acts who’ll make up those headliners were not announced.

Speaking to BBC 6 Music, Melvin Benn, also explained the break away between the festival and the its long-time sponsor Carling.

He said: "The contract was up for renewal and I wanted to reclaim the name of the festivals to return to their roots. I didn't want the festivals to be named after a sponsor.

"I am not asking another sponsor to come in and take it over. I wanted it to be less corporate like your listeners wanted."

  • so this was melvin benns decision and not part of carlings much wider (admittedly only rumoured withdrawal) from music events and premises to concentrate on getting daft sports fans drink their piss?
