    Jay-Z has announced two concerts this weekend in support of presidential candidate Barack Obama.

    On Saturday, the rapper will first head to Detroit for a free concert at the Cobo Arena. The concert is meant to promote people to register to vote before the October 6 deadline to sign up in the state of Michigan.

    Fans at least 18 years or older will have the opportunity to get tickets throughout southeast Michigan at the Obama campaign offices to attend the show and an accompanying rally. Tickets can be picked up beginning today (October 1) at 3PM.

    On Sunday, Jay-Z will be heading to Miami for a show at Bayfront Park to promote people registering to vote as well.  The show will kick off at 8:30PM on the eve of the last day to register to vote in the state, the same date as Michigan’s deadline.

    Fans must once again be 18 years or older and will have the ability to pick up tickets at all south Florida Obama campaign offices. Ticket distribution will begin tomorrow (October 2) at 10AM.

    Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel will play a fundraiser for Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama in New York next month.

    Mr Obama is expected to attend the concert on October 16th as he steps up his campaign for the White House.

    Springsteen has long admired the Illinois Senator, saying he has “the depth, the reflectiveness and the resilience” to be President.

    “He speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years,” the singer told fans on his website in April.

    Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has praised the business acumen of modern-day hip-hop musicians.

    Speaking to MTV, Mr Obama admitted that he has US rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West on his iPod, but struggles to find the time to listen to them.

    "What I've appreciated, watching this hip-hop generation, is to see how entrepreneurial they've been,” he told MTV. “In the past, musicians oftentimes were commodities.

    "I think they're a lot more sophisticated than in the past, and that is a wonderful thing."

    Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas, actress Kristin Davis, Angelique Kidjo and model Elle MacPherson have teamed up to launch a campaign Thursday (September 25) to cut the world’s poverty in half by 2015.

    The videos will be mashed together, creating a new video for the song ‘In My Name’, that was written by Black Eyed Peas members Will.I.Am and adp.de.ap withAngelique Kidjo for the Global Call To Action Against Poverty according to The Associated Press.

    NASA has launched a new daring mission – only this time the space agency wants a rapper to help people understand about astrobiology.

    The American space agency has commissioned a musician to record a rap about the study of life in the universe.

    Jonathan Chase, who was approached by NASA because he uses hip hop to help understand science, said he was honoured.

    "Being commissioned by NASA to produce the 'Astrology Rap' was a great compliment," he told the Metro.

    US democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has officially endorsed a new compilation album of songs used during his 2008 election campaign.

    Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement features tracks by John Legend, Sheryl Crow and John Mayer, as well as a new collaboration between Malik Yusef and Kanye West.

    Stevie Wonder's classic 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours' is also included on the album, which will be sold to raise money for Mr Obama's campaign until November 4th.

    A spokesperson for the album's publisher, Hidden Beach Recordings, said they had been in discussion for “quite some time” as to how to harness the popularity of Mr Obama's election bid.

    Daddy Yankee has turned down the opportunity to support his choice for President, John McCain, in a debate against Latino rapper Fat Joe.

    After media mogul Rupert Murdoch put a stop to the already inked deal for the two to debate, MTV Tr3s stepped up to the plate and pitched to both Fat Joe and Daddy Yankee for the debate to take place on their channel.

    While Fat Joe agreed, Daddy Yankee turned down the request due to being too busy promoting his upcoming movie ‘Talento de Barrio’ in Latin America.

    Fat Joe previously took a stab at Daddy Yankee, calling him a “sellout” for his endorsement of John McCain.

    Mr McCain told a Republican rally that Mr Obama had become more interested in “his celebrity friends”.

    The 72-year-old's comment on Tuesday afternoon came as Mr Obama prepared to host a fundraiser in Beverley Hills, which boasted a performance from Barbra Streisand.

    In addition to Streisand's concert, which set guests back $2,500 a ticket, the fundraiser also featured a lavish dinner costing  $28,500 per head.

    The Republican Party has been criticised for using a song by the 1970s group Heart twice without permission.

    Heart's song 'Barracuda' was played during a speech by Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, whose nickname is barracuda, at the National Convention on Wednesday (September 3rd).

    In a statement released yesterday, the group revealed that the party had not asked for permission to use the song and that they had sent out a cease-and-desist letter to prohibit any further use.

    “We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honoured,” the statement read.
