    US rapper Jay-Z will perform a one off show in Washington DC a day before the inauguration of president elect Barack Obama.

    "The Concert on the Eve of Change” will take place in the intimate Warner Theater on January 19th.

    The rapper will perform in the company of his full backing band.

    A number of musical events have been planned around Mr Obama's White House inauguration on January 20th.

    Jay-Z was one of a number of prominent musicians who endorsed Mr Obama during his campaign to become America's first black president.

    The eldest daughter of Pakistan's former Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in 2007, has recorded a rap song in tribute to her mother.

    18-year-old Bakhtawar Bhutto posted the track, entitled 'I Would Take The Pain Away', on the video sharing website YouTube.

    In the song, Bakhtawar says she can't “comprehend” her mother's killing, and questions, “Was it worth dying for?”

    "Shot in the back of your ear, so young in 54th year, murdered with three kids left behind, a hopeless nation without you, you are in all their hearts," she raps.

    Annie Lennox has called for an end to the violence in Gaza, which has now entered its seventh day.

    The former Eurythmics singer said she had been “shaken to the core” by footage of the conflict.

    More than 400 people are believed to have been killed since Israeli forces launched a bombing campaign against the leaders of the Palestinian Sunni paramilitary organisation Hamas last week.

    Speaking at a press conference in London, Lennox said: "A few days after Christmas I came downstairs, put the television on and saw smoke pyres emanating from buildings and it shook me to the core.

    A racist song about president-elect Barack Obama has tarnished the battle for the chairmanship of the US Republican party.

    The track, entitled ‘Obama The Magic Negro’, featured on a CD prospective candidate Chip Saltsman sent as part of his Christmas message to committee members.

    The 41-track album, recorded by conservative comedian Paul Shanklin, also includes the song, ‘Down On The Farm With Al Gore’.

    Saltsman told a political newspaper he had distributed the CD because committee members would have the “good humor and good sense” to identify the recordings as “lighthearted political parodies”.

    US rapper Common has said president-elect Barack Obama will make hip-hop more positive.

    The rapper told CNN that musicians would have to embrace different subjects following Mr Obama's election victory.

    "I really do believe we as hip-hop artists pick up what's going on in the world,” he said. "I think hip-hop artists will have no choice but to talk about different things and more positive things.

    “Try to bring a brighter side to that because, even before Barack, I think people had been tired of hearing the same thing."

    Elvis Costello is to headline president-elect Barack Obama's inauguration concert in Washington DC next month.

    Sting, Seal, Same Moore and film director Spike Lee will also appear at the Harman Center of the Arts on January 20th.

    Speculation over which artists would be selected to appear has been rife since Mr Obama won the US elections last month.

    The politician secured support from a wide demographic of musicians during his election campaign.

    US rappers Ludacris and Big Boi from Outkast have outlined plans for an Urban Ball to coincide with the inauguration of president-elect Barack Obama.

    The rappers, both passionate supporters of the Democrat, will host a party at Washington DC's Marriott Wardman Park Hotel on January 20th.

    T-Pain, Lil Jon and Monica are expected to attend the event alongside NBA players.

    According to MTV, a Legends Ball, curated by Dionne Warwick and Yolanda Adams, will also take place at the same venue on the same night.

    Little Man Tate have released a statement denying singer Jon Windle is a member of the British National Party (BNP) after a person with the same name appeared on the recently leaked members list.

    The 'Jon Windle' featured on the list also hails from Sheffield; unfortunately the Little Man Tate man's home city.

    Refuting suggestions it is the same person, a statement on the band's official website reads: “Little Man Tate would like to assure their fans that the Jon Windle that has appeared on the leaked list of BNP members is not the band’s vocalist. Jon has never associated himself with the BNP in any form.”

    The BNP members' list appeared online last Monday (November 17) and included the names and personal membership details of an array of people including police officers and teachers. It can still be seen online now.

    Defeated Republican presidential hopeful John McCain has responded to a lawsuit which claims his campaign used a song without permission.

    Singer Jackson Browne sued Mr McCain in August after his track, 'Running On Empty', appeared in a Republican advert criticising president-elect Barack Obama's energy plan.

    Mr McCain's lawyer Lincoln Bandlow yesterday (November 20th) contested to the lawsuit with two 20-page motions, reports Reuters.

    The first, claims that Mr McCain's use of the song's title only was permitted by the fair use doctrine, which allows copyrighted materials to be used in film for the purpose of commentary.

    US R&B singer Beyonce has said she would like to perform at president-elect Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony in January.

    Speaking at an event in New York, the singer told reporters that she would “definitely be there” to witness the event.

    Asked if she would perform, Beyonce replied: "Of course I'd love to. Who wouldn't?"

    Beyonce is one of a number of musicians who campaigned for Mr Obama during his bid to become America's first black president.
