Phil Spector’s lawyers have requested that an admission of murder by the legendary producer be ruled out of his trial.
A hearing on Friday in Los Angeles will decide if a statement Spector made after Lana Clarkson died at his home.
Spector allegedly said: "I didn't mean to shoot her." He denies murder and his lawyers say that he had prescription drug withdrawal at the time of the supposed confession and therefore argue that it should be ruled inadmissible reports the BBC.
Clarkson was found dead in February 2003 and according to grand jury transcripts a police officer testified that at the scene when he was handcuffing Spector he said: "What's wrong with you guys? What are you doing? I didn't mean to shoot her. It was an accident."
Spector’s lawyer Bruce Cutler argues that his client did nothing wrong the night Clarkson died: "Mr Spector denies he shot anyone at his house and denies he said he shot anyone. We have made motions to suppress certain statements that were not admissions and were illegally obtained."
