Steve Mason, founder member and maestro of much lamented musical madheads the Beta Band is now in his element. Free from the shackles of label interference that dogged his much loved previous work (watch Let It Beta on the best of DVD) he has set up his own label with fellow Scot Alan McGee called No Style. Named after his seminal second EP this adventure is something Steve says he’s been wanting to do for years claiming that all a band needs these days is ‘A live show and a website’.
After the squelchy electro funk of last year’s tirade against the British and American secret services in ‘C I Am 15’ he is set to release a full album pencilled in Spring 2006 and judging from the phenomenal live shows, it should be a belter. Sounding like the poppier moments of the afore mentioned and sadly missed Beta Band, his ‘New Style’ looks set to finally give Steve Mason the adoration and success his earlier work always threatened to.
