Robert MoogA memorial to celebrate the life of synthesizer pioneer Robert Moog is set to be held today in the town of Asheville, North Carolina.

Moog, who was 71, died on Sunday four months after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Fans and friends are invited to the memorial, being held at the Orange Peel Club, which will feature music and remembrances of Moog.

Former Yes member Rick Wakeman paid tribute to Moog today, he told the BBC: "He was a genius and a gentleman. A rare combination. I, and keyboard players past, present and future, owe a debt of gratitude to this great man."

The Moog synthesizer has been used by and influenced some of the most famous acts in music including the likes of Frank Zappa, The Doors, Brian Eno and The Rolling Stones.
