Michael Stipe has said that he plans to take a break from REM after the terrorist bombing in London revived some post-9/11 trauma for him.
The band played their delayed Hyde Park gig at the weekend which marked the end of their ‘Around The Sun’ world tour. 6 Music reports that Stipe now plans to record in London with other un-named artists as well making guest appearances on tours as a way of winding down.
REM were joined on stage by punk legend Patti Smith at the Hyde Park gig on Saturday. She joined Stipe to sing vocals on ‘E-Bow The Letter’ reports NME but forgot most of the words and was forced to hastily make up for her absent mindedness with a crowd pleasing ad-lib.
