Under new EMI plans...

New Coldplay Album To Be Sponsored? Add to My Fav Bands List

EMI will allow its artists, who include Coldplay and Kylie Minogue, to be sponsored by corporate companies, according to reports.

The proposals, which could see Coldplay’s new album ‘Prospekt’ released with corporate branding, are expected to feature as part of an extensive shake-up of the company.

Terra Firma, EMI’s new owners, believe the plans would help increase the label’s revenue as it struggles to meet the growth of the digital marketplace.

Earlier Today, Guys Hands, the private equity firms boss, confirmed that up to 2,000 staff would lose their jobs at the record label.

The job cuts, which will focus mainly on the recorded artist division, are the equivalent to nearly one third of EMI’s entire workforce.

Terra Firma took over EMI last August in a deal worth £3.2 billion.

What do you think about the developments at EMI? If they affect you, then let us know by posting a comment below...

  • Coldplay are my favorite band, but if it came to sponsoring, I think I would be disgusted enough to not even buy their new album. And how on earth does anyone at EMI think this is going to work when so many fans care about artistic credibility? It’s bad enough for some bands reputations that they’re signed to a major label.

  • Could you imagine if St Peppers had, had a big McDonalds logo splashed across the front of it, or Dark Side Of The Moon was eclipsed by an O2 sign.. Do you think we’d be calling these album covers iconic today.. No! Does this mean the price of the music with come down, due to increased revenue for the record company..No! What next, Liam Gallagher playing Glasto with a top saturated in Tesco adverts.. This is a fucking joke..

  • I can’t say I’m a Coldplay fan but I would certainly support any move by the band to stop this going ahead- it’s a depressing prospect that would undermine the artistic value of the music more than illegal downloading ever could. Pish

  • Woah, brilliant move... that is, if your ultimate goal is the commodification of music. Disgustingly pathetic.
