News that The Libertines are to release a ‘best of’ has been greeted by mixed reactions from fans.
As we reported earlier, ‘Time For Heroes - The Best Of The Libertines,’ will be released on October 29th and will include material from both their albums, as well as rare b-sides and singles.
Although the album will mark the band’s first album release since 2004’s, ‘The Libertines,’ many fans have criticised today’s announcement on various fan forums.
One poster on Dirty Pretty Things’ forum, said: “AWFUL. And ridiculous. Whose fucking idea was it? I’m sure Peter and Carl have nothing to do with this. THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT OUT THE GOOD OLD DAYS.”
Many complaints have targeted the tracklisting for the album, with one poster blaming the band’s record label for the selections.
Today’s news has drawn similar complaints from fans on the Babyshambles forum, with one fan saying that the album is “more than a little bit insulting.”
Since the Libertines disbanded, the band’s members have both gone on to form successful new projects – with Carl Barat and Gary Powell launching Dirty Pretty Things and Pete Doherty creating Babyshambles.
Got your own opinions about the 'best of?' We have too, so join our campaign for an alternative version in our blog, here.

- this sucks

- It has to be something put together by the scum record company. How can they only choose 13 tracks. It is a fucking joke

- Ridiculous, if you have to release a best of and showcase what they were really about then its fucking criminal to leave off the likes of the good old days, skint and minted, breck road lover, music when the lights go out, Hooray for the 21st Century etc etc etc

- this is appalling, true fans wouldn’t need a ”best of” album anyway because they would already have the songs ! This is just a ploy to make money on the record companies part. A 13 track album clearly is not enough anyway, too many songs are left off. All I hope is that Pete and Carl have nothing to do with this.

- Jesus Christ...this is complete shite...i feel upset because im not gonna buy iy but then it feels like your missing somthing from the collection, even though people should have all the songs already...Fucking hell :( also no France? ? ? Hooray for 21st century...not cool
