Dame Shirley Bassey cheated death last night (June 24) after the helicopter that was flying her back from her Glastonbury appearance was forced to make an emergency landing in high winds.
It’s reported that the helicopter suffered mechanical failure on the journey back to London and almost collided with telephone cables and treetops as it was hit by the torrential weather which has been hitting the UK.
According to The Daily Mirror locals heard a "mechanical clunking" noise before the helicopter landed at a college in Surrey.
Shirley Bassey escaped the ordeal unscathed, although was said to be shaken by the experience. She said: “Thank God. What a horrid ordeal. I'm so glad we somehow made it down safe,"
She added: "So sorry to have bothered you. May I please use someone's toilet? And a cup of tea would go down a treat."
