A recently discovered Beatles guitar used by George Harrison and John Lennon to record some of the band’s most famous works will go under the hammer in New York next month.
The Gibson SG is part of 400 pieces of rock memorabilia up for auction at Christies auction house.
Harrison played the guitar for three years and used it on the recording of the seminal ‘Revolver’ album. Lennon also used it on the sessions for the White Album. As you’d expect it’s expected to reach a healthy sum at auction!
Harrison donated the guitar to Peter Ham of the band Badfinger in 1969 - when he died five years later Ham left it to his brother, John Ham, who has held the guitar in storage for the until 2002.
The guitar was rediscovered when the Rock Hall of Fame contacted John about a Badfinger exhibition two years ago. Since then it has been on loan to the Hall of Fame in Ohio.
Also on sale at the auction is a union agreement between The Beatles before their defining performance on the Ed Sullivan show, and the Kurt Cobain LSD fuelled letter as reported on Gigwise earlier this week.
