Jack White has reacted to claims that he verbally assaulted a DJ after they played The White Stripes latest album, ’Icky Thump,’ over two weeks before its release.

As previously reported, Chicago Q101’s, DJ Electra had claimed that White had phoned her after she "leaked" the band’s new album ahead of its release. She said: “At 4pm today Jack White called Q101's main offices from Spain where they're touring, looking specifically for me, to yell at me for leaking the album and, in part, being 'messed up for the entire (music) business.’”

Talking to MTV, White has hit back at the DJ’s claims, however, saying that the whole incident has been overblown. He said: “When you're famous, you're not allowed to have any kind of reaction, unless it's completely positive, saying, 'I love rainbows and stars.'”

He added: "But this radio station, in this instance, I was having a private conversation with somebody, and they wanted to exploit it and try to make even more press out of the situation."

"Jack White, the singer and songwriter, isn't reacting to you; it's the president of Third Man Records - our record label - calling you and asking for an explanation. I'm not screaming and yelling at anybody. I'm just saying, 'Who did it? Tell me why you did it.'”

He continued: "(They reacted) like I called up and threatened to burn down the building or something, for God's sake."

The White Stripes new album, ‘Icky Thump,’ was released this week.

  • Believe it or not, it is completely unnecessary to hit the cymbals on every beat. Cymbals are supposed to be accents. Try to learn a fill or specialize on one or two instruments instead of sucking on four or five. The new album isn’t very good anyway.

  • Why the heck did that lady leak their song for, anyway? She deserves to be reprimanded and if not by her bosses then at least by Jack White.
