XFM is to axe all of its daytime DJs in a shake-up that will see listeners choose the playlist for a six hour period.
Listeners will be able to text, phone and submit online suggestions for songs to be played from 10am until 4pm as well as compiling their own playlists on the XFM website,
The segment is being branded as ‘Radio For the Power Of U’ and is being implemented at the London, Scotland and Manchester XFM stations.
According to the Guardian the change will come into effect from May 29, a spokesperson for the station said it was not a cost cutting exercise.
XFM managing director Nick Davidson added: "Our listeners are used to being able to control what they watch or listen to as these days people are inundated with choice."
"Allowing them to shape their own content seems the next logical step."
The shows outside the 10am-4pm bracket will remain unchanged.

- Big big mistake unless variation in the music is sorted out. More Kooks Keane Kaiser Chiefs is not the answer and these days is not alternative. Xfm was also a comedy station- how can it be if most of the djs are axed? 1998 all over again.

- It’s a fucking disgrace

- that is one of the worst ideas ive ever heard.

- Basically ”We don’t know what music to play, please like us, what do you want to hear? Oh and we’ll not reward you for input nor pay any presenters.”
Cnuts.

- I cannot see how taking away the personalities on the radio station is going to improve our listening pleasure. Does anyone watch MTV2 or The Box its the same stuff over and over you get a majority chosing the same songs because its all they can think of playing and they want to see their name at the bottom. This saddens me.
