Interpol have spoken extensively about how youtube has taken away the anticipation of waiting for a new album.
Speaking exclusively to Gigwise, their comments about the video site came the day after they teased fans with just three new songs off their eagerly anticipated third album, ‘Our Love To Admire,’ at a London show, on May 15th.
The bands drummer, Sam Fogarino said: “The advent of youtube, to have your record portrayed in such a low fidelity medium is awful. I mean it’s flattering that somebody feels the need to get the live performances up of these songs right away, but the thought of having our whole album on a DV cassette through some broadband wire is ridiculous.”
He admitted the the band couldn't afford to take the "risk" in previewing any more tracks with over a month to go until the album is released: “You think about all the work that you put into producing that album and making it sound as grand as it does, and being exciting about finally unveiling, and then you just hear noise on youtube. We just can’t take that risk.”
‘Our Love To Admire,’ will be released on Parlophone Records, on July 9th.
Look out for a full feature with Interpol’s Fogarino and Carlos D next week on Gigwise.

- I thought their album had already leaked?

- I don;t think they’re against youtube Nerd, but they;re saying it’s misused, and their music is not being heard in the format is should be. It’s like listening to tracks through the mobile phone speaker!

- Fair play to Interpol. Why listen to a 30 second clip which sounds like a song being put through a shredder when you can listen to it in its organic form!

- Interpol have it exactly right here,
When on You Tube theres nothing I hate more than shitty live videos that people have filmed on thier phone, what is the point of that? It makes for an unwatchable and unlistenable ’video’

- I get what he’s saying, but the only reason people would be willing to listen to such a poor quality file is because we’re frothing at the mouth for new Interpol music, and that’s all that’s available at the moment. I don’t think anyone’s going to not buy the studio release because they’ve already got a shitty YouTube rip to listen to.
