Prince played an unexpected gig at KOKO in London last night (May 10th).
Arriving on stage at 11.30pm dressed in all black except for white high heeled shoes and a white hat, Prince and his full band wowed those in attendance by playing a set mixed with classic hits, new songs and instrumentals.
The surprise gig – which had been listed as performance by the Royal Crown Revue in listings – comes two days after the singer announced twenty-one dates in London in August – including a seven date residency at The O2 Arena - formerly the Millennium Dome.
During the gig, which saw Prince play classic tracks, including ‘Kiss’ and ‘Let’s Go Crazy,’ the American also paid tribute to Amy Winehouse – who he’s expressed a wish to perform with. He said: “Respect to Amy Winehouse, respect! What a voice!"
Throughout the gig Prince praised the London crowd, saying, “People asked me why we're here doing this in London. There's nothing happening in America!"
Tickets for Prince’s O2 Arena Dates went on sale this morning (May 11th) at 9am.
Prince’s O2 Arena dates are as follows:
London O2 Arena - August 1, 3, 4, 7, 10, 11, 14

- Well the evil dwarf should have gone to a venue that wasn’t already booked.

- Went last night and without a doubt it lived up to expectations. What a performer in what a unique venue....

- amazing performance! even funnier to see the girl that kissed him get wrestled off stage by the body guards!x

- what are you on about ”Narked”?

- Outstanding - one of the best gigs I have ever seen. A two hour set bursting with energy and some absolute pop classics. The two encores - Nothing Compares 2 U and Let’s Go Crazy - were breathtaking.
