Green Day are to release a new download single to raise money for charity.
Their cover of the John Lennon classic ‘Working Class Hero’ will be released exclusively through iTunes tomorrow (May 1).
All the proceeds will go towards helping those people blighted by the troubles in Darfur.
The track merges Lennon’s original vocals with Billie Joe’s contribution and also will appear on the forthcoming Amnesty International album ‘Instant Karma: The Campaign To Save Darfur’ released on May 25
As previously reported, also appearing on the album are REM, Snow Patrol, Aerosmith, U2 and Black Eyed Peas.

- duuuude...copying lennon is such a shame, i mean, what’s original about copying...damn, no one could ever sing his songs except maybe richie havens. I’m dissapointed, I hope he’s still able to rest in peace :)
- I have heard part of the song on youtube and I like it. Well now a days alot of bands are covering other bands songs so it’s normal. I think it’s going to be a good one.

- Working Class hero is one of my favourite Lennon songs but gets no airplay. As much as I like Greenday I hope they don’t get too much credit for a very special Lennon song
