Arctic Monkeys have revealed the bizarre inspirations for their latest album ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare.’
The band say they immersed themselves in all kinds of musical oddities such as Ricky Martin and the soundtrack to Charlie and the Chocolate factory.
At one point bassist Nick O’Malley even adorned a pair of MC Hammer baggy paints to alleviate the mood in the studio.
Speaking to xfm, frontman Alex Turner said: "We listened to all sorts, Ricky Martin, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory: ‘Pure imagination’...that's a tune, listened to that a few times. All sorts, Jesters of Newport, Stormy.
“And James (Ford of Simian Mobile Disco fame) the producer would be playing things as well. And all things that we listened to last year like your E.S.G. and stuff like that just for like drums and you'd be like ‘fancy doing something a bit like this sound?’”
O’Malley added: "If you're gonna try and create a good atmosphere, why not wear some M.C. Hammer parachute trousers? Comfort first of course, with a bonus aesthetic...its a guilty pleasure of ours."
