Army Major Hits Out At Noel Gallagher's Views Add to My Fav Bands List

A top soldier has hit back at Noel Gallagher’s comments criticising the military recently.

As previously reported on Gigwise, Gallagher berated soldiers for complaining about the war in Iraq, saying: “The troops want to go, all they want to do is fight! They’re soldiers. They’re loving it, until they get shot - then they’re claiming compensation. If you’re bothered about getting shot – here’s a thing – don’t join the army.”

Ina recent speech, Major Ben Wench refuted the Oasis man’s point of view, saying:  "I would caution anyone about passing comment on servicemen and women who are injured in the line of duty.

“Yes, we volunteer to join the army and, of course, everyone is aware of the operational risks. But, no, we don't volunteer to be blown up by roadside bombs, to be killed or maimed and to lose limbs.

“I don't think that anybody who has an injury could be accused of whingeing. We are a free society and people can say what they like. But, if we were all getting pop star wages, maybe we would have the luxury of whingeing a lot more."

  • Can’t say i disagree with Noel. What is it with Gigwise using terms such as ’bile’ and ’berated’ every time Noel or any other music person says what they think? To me it seems, these terms are suggesting that Noel is just mouthing off when in fact he points out honest facts.

  • All the Major is saying that soliders don’t want to get blown up. Think Gallagher senior has a point but I wonder what it’s like living in Noel World where taking drugs isn’t socially irresponsible and doesn’t result in sex trafficking and human rights abuses. The same world where Be Here Now is a decent album...
